Does it bother you when you don't receive a thank you card or email? DH and I went to a wedding for a good friend in Sept. and we haven't received a thank you card for our gift check of $400. DH thinks cards aren't necessary but I'm a little bothered! I just remembered this because we just received a Xmas card from this couple!

"technically" you have a year for wedding thank yous - but I didn't follow that. my wedding was this past July and they were all out in October. I also had the excuse of being a FT graduate student so I had limited time
but I know someone that was married in June and has yet to send them out.personally, I get super irked when I don't get one at all. but I try to think about how long it's been or if the person has been busy, etc.
I did recently post a passive-aggressive update on facebook because I gave my cousin a sizable engagement gift in August and never received a thank you.

I don't really notice if we don't get a thank you card. But I do like when we do get them.

When it comes to Weddings and showers, I think proper etiquette is to send a thank you card. I think they're a pain to send, but still.
When it comes to birthdays and christmas.. an email, text, or call with suffice.
For a $400 wedding gift they better say something.
I bought my friend a pair of Oliver People's aviators and sent them a $75 gift card for their wedding. No thank you card, but I got a verbal thank you. -
I expect them for weddings and showers. For any other gift-giving event, even just verbally saying thank you is enough for me.

Yes, it totally bugs me and I never forget. It is disappointing that so many of my friends never gave us thank you cards for attending, giving a gift, and in some cases spending thousands of dollars to fly to their destination wedding! I am a definitely stickler for these things and always send thank you cards out asap.

like @sorrycharlie says, they technically have a year. doesn't really bother me but it's nice to have some sort of acknowledgement. what i did was wait for the wallet size pictures to come out so i could send them a picture card. maybe they're waiting for pictures?

I totally don't buy into the "having a year to send a thank you card for a wedding gift." I don't know where that rule originated, but no one is that busy they can't write and send cards in an appropriate manner. It's like if I sent a gift a year after the wedding.

I didn't send thank you cards for my wedding but at the same time the only "gift" we receieved was a fridge, and I called my nana to thank her. (We had parents and witnesses only).
I'm in the process of writing out baby shower thank yous. I think sent out within a month is acceptable for those, but I'm aiming for a week.

Alright well I got married on October, and I still haven't sent out my thank yous
I have them ordered, but I just haven't gotten around to sending them out yet. So maybe the couple is still working on writing them! I know I am!

I just got an August wedding thank you at Christmas. (Christmas/thank you combo card)
I say it's within the realm of normal and the couple is probably feeling like they are late on the cards too. -
It does bother me for formal occassions. I don't mind not getting a TY card for a small birthday present or something, but for a big present or for a wedding, I do feel that cards are necessary.

I like wedding thank yous as a reassurance they received the gift and it wasn't lost in the mix of things. I'm okay with verbal thank yous for shower & birthday gifts! My DH's family members will put in the shower card "no need for a thank you we know you appreciate it" which was very nice during my wedding showers, he has a LARGE family and it saved a lot of time and money.

@tequiero21: Really, people do that? I believe you celebrate and give the gifts at the time of the party. It's like someone not sending a baby gift until the first birthday to ensure that the baby baby doesn't die of SIDS. Sorry to be so crude, and apologies if that offends anyone.

@looch: lol i was just joking. not sure why they give people a year to send out ty cards for weddings. i don't think you're THAT busy during the first year of married life.

Maybe she accidentally missed you. Either didn't record it or checked off the wrong person. I hope I didn't do that. There were so many cards to write, it was overwhelming.

For weddings when you give such a big gift, it really annoys me when they send the same printed message I everyone. It's especially annoying when that takes 4 or 5 months, I feel like if you're going to take that long, at least personalize it a little, otherwise that's a long time.
For new parents, or kids birthday parties I don't really care so much.
