So what fancy flavors are your favorites for the Fall/ Thanksgiving? Looking for something to serve along with apple pie. No one besides me appreciates pumpkin, btw.

I made these salted caramel cupcakes last fall - the flavors came out very rich & "special occasion" appropriate:

I made banana cupcakes once with a browned butter frosting. So good. I'm sure the browned butter frosting would be good on many different flavors of cupcakes.

I make cranberry apple crumble that everyone goes nuts for...I think it's Ina Garten's recipe.
Then I make a pumpkin cheesecake with a chocolate crust that even the pumpkin haters go nuts over.
I also like pear as a flavor in fall, so if I am really feeling it, I make a pear custard tart.

Smitten Kitchen has some nice fall desserts-
Gingerbread Apple Upside Down Cake
Plum Marzipan Squares
I've been thinking about making rosemary shortbread for the holidays. It sounds so good to me right now!

I second anything browned-butter! It tastes like fall and deliciousness . I make a browned butter glaze for pound cake and it is so good!

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Would it be good to have a chocolate and non-chocolate option? These are cute chocolate flavored thanksgiving cupcakes

Snickerdoodle cookies/cupcakes or Gingerbread cheesecake or a pear crumble/crisp could also be nice.

Horchata! Not really that fancy in terms of actual ingredients - almonds, cinnamon, etc - but sounds fancier. I'd do like a white cupcake spiked with vanilla, cinnamon, maybe some cinnamon baking chips, and a wee bit of almond extract. Do a vanilla buttercream with cinnamon and top with crushed cinnamon sugar almonds.

@autumnleaves: the definite non-chocolate option is going to be my mom's apple pie. She will feel really bad if I don't let her make it, although every year she asks me to find the recipe for her.

These are all really good ideas. If I had more people coming to dinner I would serve at least 2-3 of these.
