@HappyBaker: Geeeeeeeez. My god that must have been a horribel few hours. I had the opposite - my water broke, kind of a slow leak, but DEFINITELY amniotic fluid steadily leaking. My midwife swiped and somehow didn't get the fluid on the q-tip (???) so they didn't believe I was going into labor (in there defense, I had literally no symptoms and no contractions whatsoever). 10 minutes later she did it and was like WHOA that's amniotic fluid, you're having this baby today.

The time my child’s pediatrician was wrong...resulted in a weekday evening visit to the Children’s Hospital testing for leukemia.

@misolee: thank god for second opinions. I'd say how could they be so off but current ultrasound technology is definitely lacking.

After the birth of my first son, I had severe pain in my stomach and couldn't figure out what it was. It eventually went away, but I called my OB office thinking it was related to the birth, and they told me it was probably my uterus contracting back to it's normal size. I said it was a 10 on the pain scale, and she said she still thought it was my uterus and it was no big deal. The pain came back a few days later, and this time my DH took me to the emergency room, because I couldn't function from the pain. When we got there, the pain had subsided. They did bloodwork and looked me over, but they ultimately said nothing was wrong. So I went back home thinking I was crazy. A week later the pain came back again, but this time I started vomiting with it, and it didn't subside after several hours. DH brought me to urgent care, not wanting to deal with ER fees and thinking I might be exaggerating the pain (he feels bad about that now), and the urgent care took one look at me and said go to the ER. We went back to the ER and this time they did a scan and found I had gallstones and pancreatitis. I was admitted to the hospital where they had to perform two surgeries - one for the pancreatitis and one to remove the gallbladder. I'm still mad that nobody thought of that the first two times I complained about stomach pain.

I finally went to the doctor a few years ago, which takes a lot because I never go to the doctor, because I was feeling SO crappy all the time. I felt like I had a constant cold, tons of congestion, easily feeling out of breath and like I was wheezing, and trouble swallowing and feeling like there was a constant lump in my thoat. I could tell from the beginning that the doctor didn't take me seriously but he had me do tons of blood work and a chest X-ray. Everything came back normal and he basically was just like ok bye, nothings wrong with you.

So after doing tons of internet research I found that I had basically all of the symptoms of silent reflux, I did my own elimination diet and quickly found that drinking tea was triggering it, stopped drinking tea and I felt 100% better within a day.

I was so frustrated that the doctor didn't even suggest that I might be experiencing silent reflux when I had SO many symptoms. I was stressed out and thinking there was something seriously wrong with me for months!

Went to the college health center because I was throwing up and felt horrible. I was immediately told I was pregnant, without any testing. When I replied that I'd never had sex before, I was told "you don't need to lie, I won't tell your parents". But I really hadn't ever had sex, and who the hell tells a college student (or anyone!) that she's pregnant without testing first?!

Went back 2 months later for the same exact thing. Different doctor noticed that I was on the 1st or 2nd day of my birth control pills each time this happened and told me that "estrogen sickness" was common. She switched me to a lower dose bc pill, and it never happened again.

My daughter's pediatrician told me that my milk was not caloric enough and that's why she wasn't gaining weight. He made me feed her formula (4 weeks old). I went to an LC, she had me give my baby a bottle of my breast milk and she was just as happy as after the formula bottle. I fired that doctor. First time mom anxieties.

I can counter all these with the time my doctor caught a heart issue that I assumed was just crippling anxiety. I'm so thankful that she didn't just say yep anxiety and send me to a psychiatrist for meds!
