Ok my sister is due Janurary 21, how far in advance do you usually have the shower? Everyone lives close by who will be invited if that helps.
Also what are fun themes for Winter without being too Christmasy?

Fun! What about a general winter theme, maybe "baby, it's cold outside?"
I had my shower at 33 weeks and I thought that was a good time. I had a nice big bump which is what people come to showers to see, and it was early enough that I wasn't super uncomfortable and I had time to take back gifts if I needed, set up and put together things, I wasn't freaking out about not having time to set up the nursery, etc.

@ArtBee: I love your theme idea!
I had a shower at 36 weeks (I am currently 38/6), and I think between 30 and 33 or so would be perfect. My bump is on the smaller side, so I was still okay to get around at 36 weeks, but I was really swollen, and it was hard to make it all the way through the late-afternoon-early evening shower.

I had my shower at 34 weeks and I was huge.
"Little Snowflake". It would be great to hang tons of snowflakes from the ceiling and put them on the table etc. It could easily go boy or girl.

@artbee: @junebugmama: love those two themes!
I think 32-34 weeks would be a good time putting into account the holiday schedule.

I would be a bit unsure about doing anything during the month of December...people are always complaining about being so busy, esp. during the holidays.
Maybe the first weekend of December?

I love babies in white and I think about white for winter snow! It would be fun!

I think 30-34 is perfect timing for showers, it gives the mom enough time to get the remainder of items after showers are done & she's (hopefully) not worried about going into early labor at this time. The only issue you will run into is the holidays, it might be difficult to plan around that time.
I love the "Baby, It's Cold Outside" or something with snowflakes. You could have some really cool but affordable decoration ideas!

@junebugmama: Love that!
@looch: Good point, Holidays are super busy!
@Thehistoryofus: Love babies in white too!
@jessiejo17: Thanks for the input! I am thinking around 32 weeks will be perfect.
Thanks everyone

I'm due jan 15 and we're having my shower end of October because of the holidays and work schedule. Ideally I would have liked to do mid-November but timing didn't work out. I'll be 29 weeks which is fine too! We wanted to avoid december at all costs! Also, if she still needs stuff after her shower, she can take advantage of black Friday and other holiday sales!

@birdofafeather: That is true! She has never shopped during black friday though (crazy I know!) I asked her about it this morning and she seemed really uninterested. She just threw me my wedding shower in May and I wanted to do this for her really bad. I really hope she lets me

love those ideas!! the baby it's cold outside and little snowflake is adorable.
I was due end of Feb. and the holidays messed up my shower too! lol I ended up having mine at 35 weeks (end of Jan) and that was way too late I was MISERABLE trying to clean everything, put it away and get it ready before baby came.
I would say definitely do it before the holidays. Early November? If you did it at the end of October it wouldn't be winter themed so much, I don't think.

i think planning around the holidays sort of changes the normal schedule of things. for example, my sister-in-law is due january 1st, and we're actually doing her shower october 6th. november is full, and december would be cutting it too close. my baby is due beginning of february, and we're doing my shower the middle of november.
if i were you i would aim for mid-november. i wouldn't necessarily do a winter shower in november, though. if you could manage to plan something for early december a winter theme would be really nice. do you use pinterest? there are a TON of cute winter showers on there.

You could also do something around thanksgiving and have a "Mama's Little Turkey/Butterball" shower
