I'm not sure how upset I am about this yet, but it's rubbing me the wrong way. While I was out on leave, my work made the biggest deal about making a quiet/nursing room. They announced it company wide, did a ribbon-cutting, the whole ordeal was over the top. Well, now that I'm back at work (as of last week), it's just awkward. The door is only allowed to be shut if you're in there pumping. So everytime I pump, I know everyone that walks by is thinking about it. This was confirmed yesterday by a male-dominant department discussion I was in the middle of. The leader of the department said its called the "boob room" now and they know everytime the door is shut, I'm in there. Then his whole team snickered. No one at my company has pumped before at work. I get it, I'm doing something different. But I guess I don't really like being the center of attention for something they all think is weird. I'm not sure what to do. We have 3 other pregnant women now and I would hate for them to feel like its not even worth it to pump so that they're not the brunt of getting made fun of. It's immature really. The guy who said it is 50 and is a grandpa. Just wish he wouldn't be encouraging his whole team.
Would you care? Anyone make fun of you for pumping?
