What was the most helpful thing your husband did during labor? I want to give mine a list of ideas so he isn't just asking me what I want him to do the whole time!

timing contractions? You can get an ap for it.
Otherwise I mostly just needed to hold his hand in a crushing grip (only two fingers, no rings!).

- Rubbing my back (lightly) while I was having contractions and breathing with me / helping me to breathe.
- Sitting next to me and holding my hand while I labored in the bath tub.
- Packing up the final things for the hospital.
- Physically holding me up when I had contractions anywhere other than in the bed.
- Offering me drinks and snacks and trying to help me keep my energy up.
- Logging and timing contractions.
Basically, he was just there by my side the entire time, and he helped to keep me relaxed and focused on making it through contractions.

Mine just talked with me and kept me laughing as much as he could. It really helped pass the time.

It will just depend on what you're in the mood for him to do. One minute you might want a back rub, and the next minute you might not wanting him touching you. He can't know these things unless you're telling him!

He pushed on my left hip during contractions because it was the only part that wasn't numbed by my epidural (back labor. fun.). The counterpressure was a life-saver.
And he got me water when I asked for it and made me drink it.

We hired a doula - I think she will help him with what to do as much as she will help me.

My husband just stood by to support me, asked if I needed massage, pressure etc. There came a point where I had to stay in bed to monitor LO's heart rate and the biggest help then was him giving a play by play of the rise and fall of my contractions. It was sooo helpful knowing they'd peaked and when I needed to brace myself for another one coming.
