My sister and I were discussing this the other day! My mom told us thousands of times when we were little to NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER touch the gear shift in the car. If we did, we would go rolling down a hill uncontrollably and die. She made this super clear.
She told us so often that my sister and I both had, and still continue to have, recurring nightmares about rolling away in an runaway vehicle! My sister said mom mentioned once that if she touched the gear shift "the Devil would come up through the car and get you" but I don't remember that. Haha!
When we told mom she gave us nightmares she said she had a complete fear of us actually rolling away in a car. So I can see why she pushed the fear of it on us so much.
What's something your parents told you that impacted you for the rest of your life?
ETA: I changed the title to include more stories...not just things your parents said.
it was life-changing to find out a period lasted days and days, not only a few hours!!!
And when I was really little (like 4) I loved playing with worms and my mom hated it so she told me that worms have teeth so I'd stop trying to keep them as pets. I started bawling and was terrified to walk in grass in the rain for fear of worms biting me until I was like 10. lol
