This weeks installment embodies the concept of playing mama.
Lala said to me, "Mama, not only do I love you... but I respect you."
So my heart melted for a minute and I was feeling on top of the world.
She paused and followed it up with, "So, that's why I think it's perfectly acceptable for me to watch the fishy video." (After I said no more videos).
For the record, I have no idea what the fishy video is. I just know that my toddler just tried to play me!

DS, in the car ride to preschool said, "I'm going to ask my teacher if she's seen the Gangham style video" ...noooo! He accidentally saw it on the today show while at my parents house and over Christmas my creepy uncle did the dance in front of all of my family. He's been obsessed since.

@Mrs. Jacks: I'm always so amazed by Lala's vocabulary. Do you and Mr Jacks make a point of talking to your girls like they are adults rather than little ones?

@MamaMoose: She's a little sponge. We have to be so careful with what we say because she picks up on everything. She listens so intently to any adult conversations that go on around her and deliberately seeks out new and interesting words.
When we read The Night Before Christmas, she got hung up for about 5 minutes on what a "Clatter" was and how to use it. Now she uses it in regular conversation.
I will admit that it is a self-fulfilling cycle. Since she is interested in words and new vocabulary, we end up being much more likely to use such words with her and that in turn enriches her vocab... but she's really driving this bus!

@Mrs. Jacks: Wow. What an incredible little lady you have there. I'm going to tell my husband we have to start using bigger words and hopefully it will spark M's interest when she gets older : )

Omg... my 3.5 y.o. does that too! He'll say, "mommy, I love you" or "mommy, I really like you." Then ask for something shortly after. He'll also do it with a sweet face and smile.

Oh she's even using the word "acceptable". And she's good on the buttering up side.
Yesterday I was brushing E's hair and she turned it on me and brushed my hair. As she was carefully parting my hair she looked at me, studied me for a moment and said, Beautiful. Yes, Mommy, beautiful. Warmed my heart...

@erwoo: on one hand, you are like "wow I can't believe my kid has this figured out". On the other hand, it's Like "what did I do wrong to teach manipulation?"

@Mrs. Jacks: I don't think it's necessarily what we did, but more like one of those things they figure out eventually by putting two and two together. At least that's my hope! LOL! Actually, a lot of my friends' kids started doing this around this age too so I don't feel too bad!

I thinks kids are born manipulative; from day 1 they know how to pull at your heart strings to get what they want!
DD said something the other day that reminded me of Lala's sense of humor, actually. This is the conversation she had with DH:
DD: Daddy, what are you eating?
DH: An english muffin.
DD: Oh, just like the story?
DH: What story do you mean?
DD (with a mischievous grin): Fe, fi, fo, fum. I smell the blood of an english muffin!

It has been a rollercoaster but I'd love to get together and tell you all about it. we were actually at the city library today and I was thinking of texting you, but I didn't know what your schedule looks like.
