If you knew labor would be an hour or less, would you be tempted to go w/o it? For me, I throw up every time I'm in pain. But know I would have attempted it if there was a time limit on it. he he
What about you?

My epidural was not by choice, so yup, I'd go for the one hour with no epi.

Hmm... that's a good question. My epidural worked so well but I was still able to push without a problem. I don't know if I'd want to change anything!

If it were only an hour, yes. Mine wore off it was torture having zero pain, then BAM!

Nope! My kid didn't budge because of true cephalopelvic disproportion. I have to have c-sections from here on out. I know OBs can be fast during a section, but not fast enough for me to go without an epidural, lol!
If I had the choice, though, I would totally do it if I could reasonably try to avoid tearing. Going in to labor, I never really wanted the epi for contractions, but for what came after!

I threw up before I got mine! If I knew that it would just be an hour AFTER I begged for the pain meds, yes, I would go without. Since I didn't know? No way, Jose.

If I were to have a child natural (I'm c-sections here on out) I would probably try it without, but I'm not going to lie I loved my epidural!

I was in labor for 11 hours before I caved and got the epidural. I loved the pain free feeling but I was groggy and drugged up as hell for pushing and meeting my baby. In an ideal world my next baby will come sooner or the contractions will be less intense because I won't have to be induced. We shall see.

For an hour, sure. Mine failed twice, anyway. I was glad for the chance to rest when it was working and when it wasn't working I was CONSTANTLY throwing up, but if I knew it would only be for an hour I'd go for it.

It really depends since I haven't had the baby yet. I don't know how bad the pain will be, so if it's bad enough then I think even going an hour would be too much. But if the hour starts out bearable and only the last few minutes are bad then it might be worth it.

I had great experiences both times. If I had known I would be ready to push right after I got my epidural with DS I probably wouldn't have gotten it!

Meh, maybe. The epidural was pretty awesome. But I had to wait so damn long for my epidural, i transitioned, which is apparently the most painful part! Grr! But i feel like I could do anything for an hour....so conflicted!

I have not had an epidural, but I have learned that, for me, when I get to that stage where I really, really want it, it more than likely WILL be less than an hour longer, although I don't believe it at that point. Yay for transition, teehee.

Not necessarily, I hit a point where I needed something for the pain RIGHT NOW, it was just too intense for me to handle. I'll see next time, but I'm hoping that it doesn't go so fast that I don't have a choice.
My epidural was amazing. I asked for them to give a lower amount since I was really close to the pushing stage, and I was up and walking within an hour of getting him out. No regrets at all!

Yes! I'd rather have a really short natural labor than a long one with an epi. But I got mine at 8cm and still had to wait awhile!!
GOLD / cantaloupe / 6581 posts
Yes. I got my epidural because it became excruciatingly painful after 6hrs and little progress. I knew it would be several more hours. It actually ended up wearing off about two hours into pushing, so I had an hour without it. As awful as it was, I could do it again, if my entire labor was only an hour!
watermelon / 14206 posts
Yep...I went 12 hours before I gave in to an epidural. An hour would be a breeze!
honeydew / 7589 posts
If I knew my labor would be less than 12 hours I wouldn't bat an eye at going natural again. If I knew it would be like my last 36 hour labor, I'd be tempted! I still will go natural though for all my future births.

If I had known for my first that it would only be an hour, I absolutely would have gone without. Now that I know how amazing not feeling any pain is....I'll be getting another one
pear / 1699 posts
I waited 11 hours before getting it - next time I'm not waiting as long If it was only an hour of pain I would totally go without it.

I'm not sure. I had labor induced, so I have no idea what natural labor feels like at any stage....ask me again once I've had a change to go into labor naturally.

I loved my epi so it would depend why I wanted to go med free...just to day I dd it? If i didnt have a good reason then Would still get the epi.

Give me the juice! I puked before mine too, it was a lovely sight.

I couldn't really vote, I don't think. I didn't know my labor would be short when it started and I wanted the epi. Then when they told me a few hours later that I was already fully dilated, I still wanted the epi. LOL. I had already made it through the worst of the pain but did NOT want to feel her coming out!
cantaloupe / 6206 posts
Hell yeah. I labored for 17 hours with no epidural before they recommended I have one with pit since my water had broken the day before and after all that I was 1 cm dilated. Which reminds me, I should write up my crazy birth story!

I've talked to some moms that had precipitous labors & I'd take my long labor over that ANY day! Either way.. I wouldn't get an epi (gotta be in the hospital for that. lol)
coconut / 8475 posts
I don't want an epi next time:/ but of course I will probably get one because I can't see myself going through 8h of pain. If I get to the hospital and I'm like 6cn dilated or more then, yeah ill go without.
grapefruit / 4671 posts
I don't see the point of not getting the epi so i definitely would!
