I was so thrilled to see Rubio bringing the heat to Trump. It was amazing to see Trump get a little uncomfortable! I hope this debate brings Trump's numbers down, I think it really showed how little he knows about anything!

It was certainly entertaining. I feel bad for Carson and Kasich...they might as well not be up there at all given how little time they're given to speak. There were so many personal attacks going back and forth that I feel like the majority of the debate was that and not discussing the actual issues. I did find myself agreeing with Trump on a few things so that was slightly embarrassing

@lawbee11: lol maybe last night, but Trump will come out today and negate himself again. He doesn't know what he believes, he just has verbal diarrhea lol

@lawbee11: I don't feel bad for Carson, I swear he's only in it to make $ anyways! I am a hue Bernie fan, but also embarrassed to admit I was agreeing with Trump and sometimes he looks the most viable option in that clown show lol. It feels like a reality TV episode not a professional debate.

I like Trump
We're not going to let people die in the streets.
Planned Parenthood helps million of women.
I'm embarrassed by Trump
The wall just got 10 feet taller.
Overall, it was a cluster f. The way Rubio, Cruz, and Trump performed was disgraceful. They hurled insults and shouted and looked like amateur statesman. I really didn't like Cruz and his unwillingness to compromise. Just because a politician gets elected to the highest office does not mean all of us agree with his positions. Compromise is the key to managing America.

Honestly, didn't think Trump did that poorly last night. I can appreciate his more moderate positions IF he is telling the truth about his beliefs and plans. I hate all the jabs though and think he is so unprofessional that he would be a poor representation of the country. But I do like some of his thoughts.
Rubio just seems younger and younger to me each time I watch him and I thought that his jabs at Trump made him appear even more so. I don't think it did him any favors and I didn't really see it have any affect on Trump.
Kasich I think I would actually like if he was given more air time and was more of a front runner. A lot of what he said last night really impressed me and I think his manner is more presidential than anyone else up there - or maybe he's just more of a politician.
Carson needs to get out of the race. Cruz is just so fake to me, I can't even.

@catomd00: Oh yeah I'm a huge Bernie fan too Was just surprised to be nodding along with some of the stuff Trump was saying. Could these debates be any more different from the dem debates? It's nuts.
@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Those are the exact things I was agreeing with Trump on. And I thought it was so sad that no one was clapping when Trump was saying how much PP helps women with stuff like cancer screenings.

@lawbee11: Honestly, I wasn't surprised. A major problem with my party is that it has to be all or nothing so much of the time. Abortion to me is wrong and will always be wrong - I firmly, truly believe that. BUT I can appreciate that Planned Parenthood does so much to prevent unwanted pregnancies (notice I say prevent, not end) and are a major asset to women's health in this country. I think that's awesome. But so many of my fellow conservatives can't even acknowledge the good along with what we believe to be bad which is sad because so much of life and issues in our world bring both good and bad. And I've heard so many statements against Trump solely because of his belief that Planned Parenthood does some good and I'm aghast -- really?!?! THAT's your reservation with Trump?!?

I was also surprised to find myself agreeing with Trump a few times! Carson and Kasich might as well have not been there. I wonder if either will drop out after Tuesday.

I definitely agreed with Trump on a few points, but I also never thought he was the absolute worst candidate either. Overall I don't think he would do well as president, but I don't think he is a dumbass either. I understand that he got a lot of financial help to start up his business, but he still had to know something to grow it into the empire it is today.
I think Rubio had to make the kind of jabs at Trump like he did. His lack of comebacks at Trump overall has given an impression that's he soft, so I think it definitely combats Trumps comments. Plus, I think Rubios comebacks actual had points to them. It wasn't all name calling.

Overall I don't like Trump either, but thought he did well last night while Cruz and Rubio sat on either side shaking fists and giving dirty looks. I think some of Cruz's digs made me like Trump more because he has supported Democrats in the past... meaning he's more willing to work with both sides, where as Cruz wants to go in and undo everything Obama did, regardless of who it hurts.
I really can't stand Cruz. I thought Kasich did really good, and I've always liked him.
I laughed at Carson wasting his time to bitch about not getting time, and his comment, 'would someone please attack me'.

@coopsmama: I agree with you about Kasich. I told my husband that if he could get more air time, I would definitely consider him. I'm planning to vote for Bernie Sanders and I don't like any of the top three Republican candidates, but if Kasich managed to get the nomination, I would not be embarrassed to have him as president.

I don't know, but my favorite line of the night was from Carson "I wish someone would attack ME." Haha! I feel bad for Carson (although he puts me to sleep) and Kasich. I did like seeing Rubio attack Trump a little, and he did make some good points like the fact that all he does is repeat himself and doesn't seem like he actually has plans set in place. I do also agree with some of Trumps ideas, but it scares me that he's so unprofessional and I feel like he's going to breed a lot more hate in the world which is the last thing we need.
wonderful pea / 17279 posts
@lawbee11: since the audience was so rowdy I was really sad when you could hear a pin drop when Trump stood up for PP.
Did anyone else catch how repetitive Rubio was on Immigration? He really does talk in sound bites. I was surprised he memorized so much stuff about Trump to throw at him.
coconut / 8472 posts
@coopsmama: I don't agree with abortion personally either (though I think it's an important right for society), but PP does so much more than just that. And the fact is, abortion is legal. To defund a public service because they do something perfectly LEGAL is crazy to me. Yeah, let's shut planned parenthood down and either have more unwanted pregnancies and more women on public assistance, or more abortions. Great plan Republicans .
watermelon / 14467 posts
@coopsmama: @ShootingStar: About PP...I agree with you ladies. I don't agree with abortion but I do think women deserve the right to have a safe one if they choose. PP does so much more. Because of PP, I was able to have a pap done free of charge that found irregular cells on my cervix, and I was able to have all of my follow-ups free of charge. I didn't have insurance, so this was a blessing. I was able to get my BC pills for free too. I'll always support it because it's so much more than abortions.

I agree about Rubio vs. Trump -- finally someone is going on the offensive against Trump. I didn't watch the entire debate, but at least in the beginning, my H and I were commenting that it's like Trump doesn't actually SAY anything. Rubio and Cruz would at least try to talk about policy. Then in response, Trump ignored everything they said and any questions and just goes, "make America great! Build a wall! Everyone loves me the best! I'm a businessman!" and never really says much of substance. It's all non-sequiturs and canned responses and then everyone cheers. Kind of baffling...
pomegranate / 3331 posts
@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I agree the way Rubio, Trump and Cruz fought like school girls was pretty ridiculous...and not at all presidential.
but I also 100% agree with @coopsmama: that trump didn't do that poorly and when he wasn't engaged in childish banter with rubio, actually made some good points. I find Rubio more and more childish as well. Trump seemed to be starting to move toward the general election by appealing to a broader base than he has in the past.
I thought Kasich did a great job and is so consistent with his message, which I like. That said, he gets so little airtime and I don't think he really improved his numbers with the performance. I think he's running for president at the wrong time, because much of the base has moved so far to the right of him that his working together approach rings hollow. It did often feel that he was the only adult in the room though, moderators included!

The constant yelling was embarrassing. There were a few times I agreed with Kasich and even Trump (cringe - but I appreciate his stance on pp). But I'm still a Bernie fan

Kasich is the only one I could convince my self to vote for (I'm not though my mind is made up). However, he doesn't have a shot in hell. The rest were just cringeworthy. Trump is a nightmare and just says things he thinks people want to hear. He lacks authenticity to me.

Question with regard to the PP comments made.
Have any of the candidates ever talked about separating the services PP offers? DH and I were discussing this last night...strip the abortion services into a separate entity with separate oversight.
Although I am conservative, I am pretty much pro-choice. It just seems it would remove so much of the controversy. Leave the non-abortion services part to function as is...then you arent risking affecting all the services I dont think there is much argument about being good for women. Sorry I know its a bit off topic...just something that came up last night as we watched pieces of the debate...

As for how Trump comes across - and some of the things that fly out of his mouth with regard to calling people stupid and what not. (Not some of the ridiculous things...like the period comment about Megan Kelly from months ago)....
Am I the only one not surprised that a man in his power talks like that? I sit in our board room meetings often (I work at a $20B automotive supplier)...I hear crap said like this all the time from our CEO. I guess his directness just does not surprise me or even offend me half of the time. I look at some of what he says and am like "ya he just comes from a place where there isnt time to beat around the bush, play politics and sugar coat it..." - just like his catch phrase "you're fired"...it just doesnt surprise me as a business man. And to be honest I dont find it that offensive. (Not saying at all some things out of his mouth arent offensive...I just find it funny some people harp on his loose language as if they are truly surprised someone in his position would talk that way...)

@Mrs D: Trump is now Candidate Trump. That is his new position. People wear many hats and communicate differently to suit their audience. After Iowa Trump learned he needed to behave differently to get votes and he adapted. His dismissive and offensive rhetoric is working for him right now, but it if it wasn't as a smart businessman he would have changed his tone to be more appealing.
pomegranate / 3845 posts
@Mrs D: it may occur and even be acceptable in a business setting but it is uncouth and unacceptable in a global setting, representing the United States

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Christie just proved what we all knew about him.
GOLD / watermelon / 14076 posts
@Mrs D: This pretty much sums up my feelings for Trump. Yes, I found myself nodding along to some of his comments at the debate (moreso than Rubio or Cruz). But at the end of the day he isn't a decent person. And that's why I could never vote for him. I didn't agree with a lot of George W Bush's policies, but I still thought he was a decent person.

@lawbee11: I haven't read the article yet but I pretty much don't think any politician is a decent person...no matter which side they fall on
I'll read it when k stops covering me in jewelry and finally takes a nap. I'm intrigued to see what it says and how it may apply to the other candidates as well...

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I think Christie is gunning for VP. And that's just what we need -- two loud, annoying blowhards in office 🙄

Trump's campaign is genius. What better way to steal the news coverage from Rubio's few successful jabs at him than to get a huge endorsement from someone who made a mockery of Rubio. The timing couldn't have been better.
pomelo / 5132 posts
@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: this. There is a time and a place for certain behaviors, and Trump's speech and behavior has not been at all presidential. When you are POTUS, you have to be able to deal with other dignitaries and represent our country with grace and dignity. He has not figured that out.
grapefruit / 4455 posts
Watched it late (last night) and thought Trump had a bad debate. Thought Kasich looked the best.
@Mrs D: I wouldn't say that they are all bad people necessarily but I am suspicious of them all.

Gah. I need to turn off the news. They're talking about how Trump may sweep Super Tuesday and essentially be unstoppable. It makes me sick. What is wrong with people?!
grapefruit / 4455 posts
@Applesandbananas: idk. I can't vote for a D. Kasich was talking about how things will change for him when they go north and I wish, I so wish.
pomegranate / 3845 posts
@2littlepumpkins: I know. I'm just so flabbergasted. Every single thing that comes out about Trump is worse than the last, now he's refusing to condemn the KKK?! And people are okay with that?!
grapefruit / 4455 posts
@Applesandbananas: yeah he did say he "would condemn" any organization that he researched and found to be of that thought but wtf, he should know better. And from what I hear he has made comments about them in the past so is he claiming to have forgotten or what? I don't inderstand how people are just ignoring all his missteps, from calling John McCain a loser to this. i just don't get it.
