    @lovehoneybee: someone who can relate!! We were team green too!! My epidural worked partially but wore off, and never fully did away with the pain. My anesthesiologist told me epidurals didn't work for back labor. He also told me he gave me the amount of medicine they would for a c section. I asked what their plan was if I needed a c section then. I also asked for my money back. I think the tough thing for me was it worked enough so I couldn't move, but not enough to take away all the pain, so I was just stuck in an uncomfortable position.

    @grizz: here goes!

    Water broke on couch.
    Back pain. Bad epidural.
    Pushed three hours. A boy!

    I had an unmedicated L&D that lasted under 6 hours. I pushed twice and had third degree tears. My first thought gazing at my son was "I just gave birth to my husband". (C takes after DH in a big way)

    1-- induced with pitocin for high blood pressure. Back labor, posterior baby. 32 stitches. Ouch.

    2-- over two weeks of prodromal labor. Another posterior baby born completely med-free 2 hours after arriving at hospital. Holy ring of fire!!!!!!!

    @SugarplumsMom: @jedeve: @grizz: your haikus are awesome!

    @grizz: I like this version of it a lot-the good stuff came at the end. You go, Mama

    @Rainbow Sprinkles: for the life of me I can't remember if he was sunny side up. DH says he thinks he turned at the last second and came out facing the side. Is being posterior what causes back labor?

    8 hour induced labor which included back labor and I wasn't allowed an epidural. Went from 5-10cm in 10 minutes and Lo was born in 2 pushes. No tears.

    1. Water broke at home at 40 weeks. Labored naturally for 6 hours. Got the epidural and pushed for 3 hours.

    2. Induced with pitocin for high blood pressure at 40 weeks. Labored for 3 hours, got the epidural and pushed for 15 minutes.

    @MrsStar: tears as in rips or tears as crying?? I'd have some of the latter in that scenario, that's for sure!

    My first son:
    He's measuring small so we are inducing you today...right now. WHAT? Healthy boy and super in love with him.

    My second son:
    Waited too long to get to the hospital. Sorry miss, you can't get an epidural. Healthy boy and super in love with him.

    @jedeve: Yeah, the second time they tried upping it they gave me enough for a c-sec! It actually sort of worked both times--but settled completely in my left leg from thigh down, no matter how many times I switched from side to side! I couldn't walk on my own for over 12 hours!

    And at first the nurse didn't believe me--I tried telling her that I was in a lot of pain and she told it was just normal pressure! Ugh, seriously? I can feel every effing contraction turned up to like 11, I feel like my back is being sledge-hammered every few seconds, and you're telling me all I'm feeling is pressure? Bitch please...

    nectarine / 2994 posts

    @jedeve: No rips! There were definitely tears of crying - but I think that was more shock then anything.

    False labor drove me crazy for five days. When my water finally broke, I was so excited, but I developed an infection after several hours of labor. I was heartbroken over my C section but my perfect daughter healed all the hurt.

    1. Water broke in the middle of the night. Headed to the hospital where I ended up needing protocol and got an epidural. After a total of 15.5 hours after my water broke and 15 minutes of pushing my son was born!

    2. Induced at 39 weeks by doctor breaking water plus pitocin. I got an epidural and labored for 7.5 hours. After 2 pushes my daughter was born!

    @lovehoneybee: my midwife didn't believe me either! When she was stitching me up she said, see I told you - you can't even feel this! I told her I could, I just didn't care!

    Labored with a midwife for 30 hours and got stuck in transition for five of those before demanding to be transported to the hospital despite her protests. On call doctor broke my water and I got an epidural at 12:30pm. After 45 minutes of pushing, my 9lb 3oz., 22 inch son was born at 5:30pm and life was forever changed.

    They wanted him out asap told me I was going to have a C-section.
    Scratch that idea, pitocin and an epidural - couldn't feel a thing.

    Water broke at 38+5 the day after dancing my butt off at a wedding. Birthed unmedicated and with the help of hypnobabies and a birthing tub for 22 hours. Beautiful baby girl arrived on a sunny Sunday afternoon.

    Water broke and brought on hard and fast contractions. Labored all night with no progress, so I finally got an epidural. Half hour of pushing, it's a girl!

    No-one believed I was in labor including the nurses and FI. Long dramatic 18 hour unmedicated labor ending in c section. Horrible recovery and PTSD/Anxiety but wouldn't change it for the world.

    Went into labor on Wednesday. The "poopiest baby ever seen" was born Saturday morning. The triage nurse said it couldn't be done med-free but I proved her wrong.

    Induced because my body refused to start labor on its own. Back labor, double contractions, and 2nd degree episiotomy. My happy and healthy baby was wide awake for the whole day after birth!

    Water broke at 2:30am while on the toilet (!)
    Light epidural at 9 cm (asked for it around 7-8cm).
    1 hour of pushing and healthy baby girl born 11 hours after water broke!
    Very uneventful....it was th next 24 hours that were eventful - getting evacuated from the hospital during a hurricane!

    I had back labor and eliminated my bowels for over 15 hours (you're welcome). Got to the hospital at 5, had the baby at 11:49am. Small tears for me, meconium in my water but as soon as she was on my chest, instant Love.
