LO is walking, mostly straight leg, with a push walker and is approaching his first birthday. He cruises all the time. He's either in socks or barefoot on the hardwood when he uses his walker. Is it time for shoes? When did you put your little one in shoes?

I started putting them in soft sole shoes like robeez at that stage, but only when we were out of the home. At home it is always socks or bare feet. We start flexible soles like stride rite once they are really walking and playing outside at the playground and stuff.

I would buy them now. You could start with something like robeez or stride rite slo motion/early walker shoe. Daycare required shoes at 1 year so they could go outside so I went ahead and had little one wear the stride rites before he was walking.

That is exactly when we got shoes for DD. She has been in Stride Rite's now for about a month and just started walking in the last week. Our daycare requires babies to be in shoes when they can walk (I think just to get used to having to wear them?) so we wanted to get them before we needed to.

LO started walking at the start of a New England winter, so she was in shoes immediately due to the cold. We used Robeez at home and daycare to start, but once she was going outside on the playground at school we bought Stride Rite early walker shoes with flexible rubber soles.

I didn't like the robeez with the suede bottoms, they never fit my son's feet! I instead used the robeez mini shoes and then we went to athletic sneakers as they had the best range in wide sizes at the time.
I am not a shoe person when it comes to my son. He's always literally had 2 pairs of shoes at most.

I would get him some shoes with soft soles for when he will be walking or pulling up outside. I would keep him in bare feet or socks at home and daycare.
I love shoes on little ones and my DD has been walking for 9 months, but she still goes with bare feet as much as possible. They even take their shoes off for most of the day at school.

DD1 was in soft soled moc's by the time she was pulling up and also when she started daycare at 10 months. She was full on walking after 11 months and we waited till a little after her 1st birthday to get her in hard soles.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I resisted shoes for a long time (unless soft soled robeez or freshly picked mocs). Finally, daycare insisted because they play outside on the playground. He has been in real shoes for about a month now (only at school HA) so he was 14.5 months.

We skipped soft shoes entirely, since there is no need inside the house. We started her wearing structured shoes when she started actually walking independently outside the house.

I vote wait as long as you can to buy shoes! That's my mum's advice anyway so you avoid buying as many shoes..hopefully. And also shoes are the worst. I'd love to never have to wear shoes! My daughter was walking at 11 months and I did socks or bare feet inside and outside, but we were just on grass outside. She was given a pair of shoes for her first birthday and wore them for a bit and then rain and winter hit so I got stonz and later winter boots. Even now I forget them sometimes and she either has to be held or walk stores in her socks which I'm cool with.

LO's daycare teachers have already prepped me he will move to the next class around his birthday even if he's not walking yet. The 1 year olds use the same playground as the younger infants, but maybe not at the same time. I will ask if shoes are required.

DS is 16 months and only wears shoes outside. He started wearing soft soled shoes around 13 months and now he wears stride rites or bog boots. He started walking at about a year. Even at daycare, I have them put on his shoes before going out and taken them off once they come back in.

I would put baby into soft soles and put off proper shoes for as long as possible.

I checked and yep, we have to send shoes to daycare when he moves to the next room. In the next room they go out to the playground twice a day and shoes are required outside.

We wear freshly picked moccasins. Most Peds recommend soft sole so we will wear Mocs prob until he's 1.5.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: pedipeds originals are the best for that age if you go outside. The sole is soft but rubber, so LO can walk on damp sidewalks/grass whatever.
