I know each daycare is different, but does your daycare require you to pick up your LO if they have diarhea? LO has had a stomach bug for the past few days. I stayed home with him Monday and took him to daycare yesterday. When I picked them up they talked about his explosive diarrhea but did not mention what would happen if it happened again... so, has anyone had to pick up their LO because of a stomach bug? I have a TON of work and I really need him to stay at school today.

If its a stomach bug and not food poisoning I would keep my LO home. It's not fair to the other kids and staff to expose them to it.

Our in-home daycare doesn't *require* it, but suggests that we should. It's actually going around our daycare at the moment, but DD hasn't gotten the bug yet (knock on wood!)

Our daycare requires us to pick her up if she has 2 or more runny poos during the time she's there, and we can't bring her back until she's either better or been cleared by a doctor.

when i worked in a daycare our policy was 3 loose BMs & kiddo had to be picked up. if they had a fever or were showing other signs of being ill, they had to be picked up right away, but just diarrhea had to happen 3 times before they needed to go home.

@anonysquire: I kept him home one day when he was vomitting. I thought he was better but I just checked the webcam and they have already changed him which makes me think things did not go well this morning. He's not acting sick.

Update: Just called daycare they said his stomach is still upset but that he's okay and he can stay. I really hope this is the last day of his tummy troubles. I feel so bad for him.

Our LO has to stay home if she has diarrhea or fever. They are a little less strict with her in particular because she has food allergies that can cause upset stomach. But if she shows signs of being sick she'd have to come home. They just simply can't risk getting the other kids sick. As much as it's hard hubs and I just alternate days staying home when she's sick. I wouldn't want another parent to send a child to her class if they had diarrhea.

@littlek: Ours has a 2 uncontained BM's per day rule. They will usually call after the first, and after the second you have to pick up.

@MamaMoose: Yay, unfortunately that is not the case with us. I am the one that stays home if LO is sick.

@T.H.O.U.: They say he's "contained" but he just has an awful rash from all of this.

@Smurfette: "uncontained" meaning if it isn't kept in the diaper because its too runny. It helps because some kids just naturally have runny poo.

@littlek: yes if LO throws up or has diarrhea they make us pick her up

@T.H.O.U.: Yeah R's are pretty runny. She has leaks all the time. But usually just one leak a day.

It depends on the severity of the diarrhea. But once they're sent home they need to be diarrhea free for 24 hours before coming back.

I feel like the worst mom ever. But, I really can't miss a whole day work right before the September 15th deadline. I'll see if I can leave early and get him.
