I've always gone to the bathroom right after sex. I'm prone to UTIs and this has always helped. Now that we are TTC I feel the need to hang around a bit to give the swimmers a head start 
I'm torn on running straight to the bathroom or waiting. Anyone else have this problem?

Me too! I've heard that lying down actually does nothing, as all the swimmers that are going to get there will have gotten there already. But I still make sure I lie in bed for a few minutes, and I have been known to put my feet up when I'm O'ing, just in case
I haven't gotten a UTI yet (fingers crossed)! But if you're prone to them, I might not tempt fate.

I usually stay put for a half hour or so before running to the bathroom during my fertile days. I've never gotten a UTI thank goodness. Maybe you could wait five or ten minutes before getting cleaned up to give them a head start?

I've gotten one UTI and it was so horrible! I would wait a few minutes and then go to the bathroom

I am prone to them. Sucks! I would split the difference -- wait about 10 mins, then go. Also, cranberry pills and lots of water help ward them off.

I suggest the Instead Cup for situations like this. Just pop it in post BD, don't pee for a bit, then go. Using the Instead Cup cut down on the elevated time because I'm lazy. Drinking lots of cranberry juice helps too.

I've put my legs up a few times...just in case. Mostly I'll just lounge for a few minutes while Hubs cleans up and then go tend to myself.

I usually lay there for 20 minutes or so, however, I have plenty of friends who didn't do that and got pregnant. I'd say a couple minutes is fine!

It's so funny you're posting about this... DH and I were just having this discussion last night. I know you dont' HAVE to wait around but I do each time we BD- it makes me feel like I'm giving them a better chance of getting where they need to be too:)
If you get a UTI (they are the worst!) I'd ask your OB/GYN if they have feelings about whether to "let it simmer" (as DH says) -
didn't help me, but i'd elevate for about half an hour and then go to the b-room.
