The goal of today is to raise awareness on the issue of prematurity and raise money to support continued research on solving this problem. No one plans on having a premature baby, but the rate is extremely high in the Unites States. If you'd like to help, support The March of Dimes.
Many cities are "lighting it up purple" to support prematurity awareness. Have you seen any?

Owen was late pre-term at 34 weeks and we definitely try to raise awareness about prematurity whenever we can. These babies are truly miracles!!

What a great day! It is important to raise awareness but I also think it is so amazing that medical science has advanced and been able to care for such little angels

Would a Prematurity board be separate from the NICU board?

@mrbee: yes. It would be nice to ask questions about preemie age adjustments. Which wouldn't go in the NICU section... I'm sure other benefits to the board as well. I've thought about asking before but was scurred.

@.twist.: the NICU board isn't that active, so I was more wondering if we might fold that into a new Prematurity board?
We can try them as separate boards for a while... I'll create it when I'm in front of the computer next!!

@Mrs Green Grass: such a beautiful miracle! That picture of his little hand next to the CPAP mask is unreal. Thanks for starting this thread! Feeling very grateful today for my nephew who was 31 weeks with lots of complications and is now a 75 lb six year old and of course for my M who was late preterm.

@mrbee: I feel like combining them would be fine. Although, my baby wasn't *that* premature so maybe it would be more useful to some longer term NICU parents. My feeling on it, though, is that when you're going to the NICU you hardly think of anything else. I didn't HB a lot while visiting the NICU because I was there all the time focusing on L.

@Mrs. Lion: yea. I kept my fav preemie outfit of his. I feel sad that my memory of him being so small is so blurry. Or because I never got a little hand or foot print!

@mrbee: although we were in the nicu for prematurity, many others are there for different issues, so I think the boards would be best kept separate.
