Our crib converts to a toddler bed and we have toddler rails to put up on it. I'm trying to decide if we want to go the toddler bed route or just go all big girl and get a single bed to start?
What did you do?

We converted her crib to a toddler bed. We plan on moving her to a real bed next year!

We went toddler bed. Took the side off, put up a toddler rail (which I actually had overnighted to us, since LO decided one day that she would start climbing out of the crib)... and then she refused to sleep in it so she moved into our bed and has been there ever since

I feel like we tried it all, lol. We put up the toddler rail (taking off the front of the crib), my son wasn't interested, he thought it was a toy box. Then we tried a twin bed and it was a bust. We briefly thought about going to a full using the crib as the headboard and footboard, but the conversion rails were no longer available and my mom wanted the crib for my nephew.
So, we ended up getting a full sized bed frame and mattress set.

If you don't have to buy anything to convert to the toddler bed, I would probably just do that, then buy a real bed when she outgrows the toddler one.
We went from crib to a twin since we would have had to buy the conversion kit, plus, we needed the crib anyway for LO2.

We went straight to the single bed. We had to use the crib for #2!

Both. At home for night sleep we went with a twin, and then took his crib mattress and put it into a super cheap toddler bed at work since he goes to work with me and naps there every day. I'd start out with the toddler bed if you already have it. I would have done it that way, but the toddler conversion for our crib was like $150, so it made more sense to buy a real twin bed.

My husband's grandfather made little low beds that fit crib mattresses for my husband and his sister, so that's what we'll use for LO. We'll need the crib for number 2!

Liam's crib does not convert to a toddler bed, so we will probably get a twin sized bed when he's ready to switch and skip the toddler bed. We actually have a futon in his room now that we all sit on to read books together, so I might end up just using that, or put that mattress on the floor and use it as his bed at first.

We moved her directly into a twin. I knew we'd need the crib for #2 six months later and didn't want to do multiple transitions.

We very briefly went to toddler bed but then a month later upgraded to a twin. We wanted her out of the crib for baby #2 and didn't want her to get too used to using it.

our crib converted to a toddler, so in the interest of making the most out of the purchase and being too lazy to buy another bed, we just used the toddler bed option. if it did not have a toddler bed option, i would have gone for a twin.

My thoughts are to go straight to a big girl. Whether that's a full or a twin idk. My son will be about 18 months when my second arrives and he will go straight to a full size bed. A toddler bed and a big bed are essentially the same concept just different sizes. And he's in the 90th percentiles so he is rolling like crazy and smacking the sides of the cribs.
I just don't see the point in transitioning into a toddler and then A full size bed.
My little brothers both went to full size beds from a crib at 18 months. I think if you do it before they are old enough to learn to get out and run around then you're better off. My son goes to bed easy peasy right now. And I have used a full bed for him before and he just laid there and went to sleep.

The plan is to go straight to a twin bed because future baby #2 will need the crib.
