So my LO is 21 months, and has started to upbuckle her chest clip. I tell her to stop messing with it, but it's not working. She's still rear-facing. So my question for you all is what is the safer choice, moving forward facing so I can see her or 2 leave her rear-facing risking the chest buckle being 1/2 undone/not clicked correctly?

I would definitely leave her RF, especially because she might keep doing it if she's FF, and unless you're watching her 24/7, you still might not realize; can you put a button down shirt over her backwards after your clip her in? so she can't access the buckle?

@LuLu Mom: Olivia did this the other day, and I was like oh I must not have clipped it all the way. I spotted it in the drive thru and was horrified. Then today she was about to do it again, so she must've the first time too!!

My mom used to pull over immediately and be super dramatic about how dangerous it was and how she was so scared and made us promise NEVER to touch our seatbelts. It was effective!

I am really curious what car seat manufacturers say about the chest clip being undone, or putting on some aftermarket contraption, because in Europe, for example, car seats aren't allowed to have chest clips ( I thought it was so weird at first) because rescuers have to be able to undo the harness with one hand.

@looch: I agree. These covers seem like an effective solution to a dangerous problem, but my fear would be that in case of an accident they might make it more difficult to remove the child from the car.

@looch: @MamaMoose: I believe the backwards shirt trick is approved by Car seats for the littles (which is super intense about car seat safety, if you've ever followed their facebook page!).

@hilsy85: I'd be okay with the backward shirt, that seems like a reasonable solution...although if they can get a chest clip undone, I wonder if baby houdinis would find a way, regardless!

I've heard about the backwards shirt trick but with the heat and humidity lately I can't bare to do it. I'm just hoping she stops doing it! We don't go far or anywhere too often.
