LO will be 3 in December and has climbed in since early this summer (June-ish). She's still rear-facing. She also insists on doing the chest clip herself and it must be done first.

@Foodnerd81: haha, Xander tries, but he can't do it (we have a Graco MySize 70), thankfully!

DS is 2 and can't get out at all. He'll sit up like he's going to, but can't due to the recline. I still put him in myself (I'm 14 weeks along with #2). I hadn't thought about how this might affect me later on!

My DS is ff but has been climbing in on his own since 20m. For us it's the easiest way to avoid a tantrum! I imagine the vehicle makes a big difference though, ours has a lot of handy ledges. The bit he finds hardest is turning around to sit down once he's in, so I hold the straps out of the way to help him!

@Foodnerd81: DS is sitting in the middle seat. It definitely takes some work! I drive a sedan so that helps. It's a multi-step process if we're getting into DH's SUV though. He's been great about at least setting DS into the car seat for me about 90% of the time.

I think around 2.5. I’ve never let (and LO has never asked) to belt or clip any part of the buckle herself. I don’t want to give and inch and have it turn into “take a mile”, so we don’t go there! I have an SUV too – I just set her up on the seat (standing) and she walks over and plops down into her RF seat, and then I sit on the seat and buckle her in (the car seat is in the middle).

LO is now 3 and can get out of her seat too, though I usually haul her out since that’s easier.

I think since around 2.5. We have an suv but it has a step thing on each side so it makes it easier for him to climb up. It's nice because I carry little sis and I open his door and he climbs in while I buckle sister in then I Buckle him in. I would let her start practicing. It will be nice for her to get in herself once the baby is here.

E does it and INSISTS on buckling herself in--crotch and chest clip--and pulling the straps tight. Then i pull it tight and adjust accordingly.

My son started climbing up around 20 months. He is 25 months now, but I still help him "jump down". Getting in is no problem.

My LO started doing this about a month ago, and he's 16 months now. He climbs into it and sits down, but obviously I have to reposition him and strap him in. He can't get out on his own.

He's been climbing unto our clek fllo since 18 months. It's so much easier!
