@avivoca: there is a bike shop and they have toddler helmets, but I thought this would be easier. I think you are right that going in there is the way to go even if they cost a little more. I had to bribe her with the iPhone just to let me put a helmet in her head at target, not sure how I'll get her to let the bike shop guys check it out!

@sarac: oh geez. Wow. And thanks- you are right that I should make sure it's a good fit! I'll go up to the local shop and hopefully they can provide more guidance. Maybe I'll even bring a Daniel tiger video so she will let us try a bunch on.

The good news is the local bike shop had a helmet that fit perfectly and they told me how to adjust it. She even liked t so much she wore in the stroller, then for over an hour at the park after. Good sign.

Only we took her out in the bike trailer today and at first she was good about keeping it on, then I think she got bored or tired of wearing it and she kept taking it off. I don't really think I can adjust the straps much tighter but she can still pull it off. We stop every time and show her how mommy and daddy are wearing our special hats but then she takes it off again a while later.

Any advice for that? DH had to ride back to the car alone while I waited with her on the side of the bike path.

@avivoca: yeah I think our first ride was a little too long for an almost two year olds attention span. I've also been reading about putting a folded towel behind her back so the helmet won't push her head so far forward and I will loosen the shoulder straps a little. Hopefully shorter trips and more comfortable sitting position will help.
