I think we are in the midst of the 18 month / toddler sleep regression. Between sicknesses (cold, cough, ear infection), and travel for the holidays, sleep has been pretty bad with our 17 month old. When she was sick of course we soothed her, and if go in and nurse her in the MOTN, (she had been STTN since 9 months old), but even after nursing she wouldn't go back to sleep. So sometimes Dh or I would sleep in the bed in her room with her (not ideal).
After all this, we are now at a point where she screams as soon as we put her down in the crib at night or for naps. She seems to feel fine, because she is perfectly happy up until that moment. So... I'm guessing she is just pissed because she doesn't want us to leave? And again in the MOTN, she starts screaming, one of us goes in and soothes her, she's perfectly happy, then we try to put her in the crib and she screams. It's exhausting. Oh and if I go in she only wants to nurse, forever.
What did the 18 month or toddler sleep regression look like for you? Tips to get through it? We are ok with CIO, especially since she won't fall asleep with us soothing her so it's inevitable that there will be some tears.
She was sleeping so well before this. Did our little bedtime routine, said goodnight, she would actually reach for her crib and go right to sleep. Now we are at the worst sleep place in over a year probably.
I'm still nursing, so on one hand in glad I have that to fall back on, but on the other hand there are only so many hours of the day and night that I want to be attached to her.
jk!! i love the guy, but it constantly amazes me the things he can sleep through!
It's kind of cute, but he always has trouble getting out of bed on time in the morning. Yesterday DH took him up and down several flights of stairs in desperation... that finally got him tired enough to sleep!
