19 months and still waiting! He just wants to run and bang on the computer keyboards or pull books off of the shelf.

My 3 year old likes to sit and read with me, but not my 13 month old. So I take my younger one to storytime. She will sit still for that. It is 30 min.

@Mrs. Pen: we go twice a week usually and have since he was 6 months... but he is definitely loud, busy, and crazy there! They have a huge play area with a house, puppets, train table, fish etc. so it's encouraged. We very rarely read at the library -- that's only at home!

She's two now and is way too distracted by everything. She can sit still for maybe two books and then it's off she goes

One idea that has worked really well for us, is to reserve books online, and then go pick them up. Then the pressure of looking for books is off, and we can just enjoy the experience. We usually end up finding several other things while we're there, but I'm not having to book hunt (especially for adult books) which makes it easier for me to help Lorelei have fun and also learn about some library etiquitte (and as you can imagine, since it's me, the "etiquitte" is pretty darn relaxed; mostly things like, "It is not okay to snatch newspapers from elderly gentlemen and run off shrieking and ripping them," or, "We leave at least one or two books on the shelves. Giving people meaningful work is good; creating an entire new job or job function is a *little* over the top." Also, "The kick-step stool is not a launch pad. ER visits aren't that fun, and I am already really aware of how well you jump."). Ellie really loves the library and she can be on her own somewhat because she's really easy to trust in that setting.
