Do you see your baby's top teeth when she/he smiles?
My baby girl is 13 months. I realized recently she has about 5 teeth coming in across the top. I haven't seen these before today, but they must have been there for weeks. I can't see them at all when she smiles. She does have an upper lip tie. Is that the reason I am not seeing them? Or do they need to come through more before I see them? I'm just curious if the lip tie is now starting to cause a problem.

Do you know how severe of a lip tie it is? I would think that could be part of it, especially if it's more severe. Maybe check with your pediatrician, next time you're in? It could also be partially due to genetics - some people just show more or less teeth when they smile. For fun, here's a picture of LO1's smile around that age (actually closer to 14 months, but it's the closest I could find quickly.)

@raspberries: Thank you for responding. Your little guy is adorable. His teeth are definitely in more than my girl's are right now. I'm hoping that as they come out more, I will get to see them when she smiles. No, I don't know how severe it is. It looks like the tie part comes down to the bottom of her gums. So I'm going to be so curious how this plays out. I don't want to be concerned about things that are purely cosmetic. But I will be concerned if the lip tie starts to cause problems. Does your little guy have a lip tie or a gap in his teeth?

@agold: both my boys have lip ties and posterior tongue ties (that were clipped in infancy), and you can see their upper teeth when they smile. Neither boy has gaps in their teeth.

When my LO smiles he usually just shows his bottom teeth. If he is laughing and really cracking up you can see his top teeth too. No lip tie. My son’s teeth came in late and we were always taking a peak in his mouth for signs of teeth.

@agold: Thank you! LO1 had a lip tie that was clipped when he was an infant, but still has a gap in his teeth (which definitely is genetic, because I had braces for what felt like foreeeever as a teenager. 
) My nephew had a class 3 (I think?) lip tie that they didn't take care of until he was a toddler - it was affecting his teeth because the lip tie trapped food and made it difficult/impossible to clean.

My LO had a lip tie that we didn't notice until he was about a year old because his top teeth became really hard to brush. We had it clipped and it completely changed his smile. Before when he smiled his upper lip would just go kind of straight across his top teeth and hide the teeth. Now when he smiles the upper lip comes up above his teeth.

My dd's doesn't show when she smiles, if anything just her bottom teeth do.
