When your LO starts switching between 2 or 1 naps, what determines if it's a one nap day vs. a two nap day?
Lately, LO will usually only take one nap if she wakes up later than usual or her first nap goes on longer than usual. Either way she fights the second nap like no other and it takes FOREVER to get her down for the second nap if she actually takes one.

I don't go back and forth between one nap and two. Once I realized she was transitioning, we decided to cold turkey the one nap schedule. We stay extra busy in the morning, and come home for nap time. We did the same thing when switching to two naps. I find it's easier (for me) to not be in limbo.

I also didn't go back and forth unless under special circumstances. I would wake him up by a certain time if he was still sleeping to ensure enough WT before Nap 1, and then limit Nap 1 to ensure he was tired enough for Nap 2. That was in the transition period (12-15 months). At 15 months, we went to one nap cold turkey, like PP said, making sure to stay extra busy in the morning so he didn't want to snooze.

We also went cold turkey. I've read that it just perpetuates overtiredness to go back and forth between 1 and 2.

When LO turned one she was finished with her second nap. For a few days I would put her down and she'd sit there playing in her crib. She didn't act tired, so I just pushed her nap a little later. For awhile it was hard for her to stay awake until her new nap time, but she got used to it and now she never seems tired.

We transitioned at 18 months. It just naturally happened. He kept fighting that first nap for weeks. We finally just let him skip the first nap and we pushed up the 2nd nap, which ended up being his only nap of the day.
