I've talked to many parents who went straight from crib to twin bed, and usually because they needed the crib for the second baby. I've heard everything from it was GREAT (child's sleep was even better in the bed than the crib) to it was awful (at 6 he still goes to his parents' bed every night at 1am).

Every child is different, I agree but in our situtation I had a second baby coming and didn't want my son to be in a crib still (seeing we had to move him room anyway)

He was 19 months when we transitioned him in the second room. What we did though was have both the bed and the crib in the room, allowing him to decide which he wanted to use. He went for the crib 3 nights, the 4th asked for the bed and mid way through the night wanted to go in the crib, and the 5th day he never went back.

He's 23 months now, and never once wanted to go in his sisters crib. He LOVES his big boy bed.

We had our baby when Toddler Girl was 23 months. We transitioned her to a twin (which was already in the room) at about 26 months. She did pretty good. Now the baby is 4 months old and we're planning on putting her in the crib next month.

I didn't feel that she was ready to move before the baby was born, but I decided not to stress about it right away, because I knew that the baby would be sleeping in our room in the moses basket at first. And three or four months makes a big difference to a little person.

At 25m we converted our crib to a toddler bed (for us it was just taking off the front side of the crib). We have the twin bed all ready to put together (once the hardware arrives) and plan to transition DD to it at 26m. Our goal is to break the crib down and store it for a couple months before the baby arrives (due mid-Sept) so that DD doesn't feel that the baby "stole" her bed since they will be sharing a room.
