@lokki: I didn't have this problem but my BFF did. Her prolactin levels were through the roof. She had a pituitary tumor, took meds for it and was able to ovulate in 2 months. She wasn't lactating either, which the doctors were amazed at bc of her extremely high levels. I want to say hers was 120+?

I had a hormone panel come back with elevated prolactin several months before I became pregnant. I was not TTC at the time, but my midwife was trying to figure out why I had long, but regular, cycles.

In my research I found that the levels can vary a lot, so I would maybe ask to be retested before you have to go through an MRI?

My prolactin was normal on the second test, and my doctor determined that I must just have naturally long cycles. I was pregnant within less than a year of that elevated test.

I was diagnosed with a pituitary tumor years ago. At first I was very upset, but it has not been a huge issue. I have no idea what my prolactin was at the time, but I do know that it was elevated and I was not ovulating. My tumor is very small and not anything to worry about on a day to day basis.

The biggest issues with pituitary tumors is that they can sometimes grow during pregnancy and in extreme cases press on the optical nerve, which causes vision problems. My doctor thinks mine is small enough that this should not be an issue. I get an MRI every other year to check on mine, but I know it was especially important to have a baseline MRI right before we started TTC so they could gauge whether it might be a problem during pregnancy. Obviously you cannot get an MRI while you are pregnant.

I'm really surprised that you ovulate, but that is great. I did not for a long time. My tumor was controlled by cabergoline when I was not TTC because it works the best. It is currently controlled by bromocriptine because it is safe if you become pregnant. Bromocriptine has finally brought me to a normal prolactin level, but it required several months and a lot of dosage increases to get there. I don't know if this is what has caused me trouble getting pregnant, or if it is something else, or a combination.

Hi--Forgot to reply to this. I have high prolactin levels (30s-50s) but was ovulating, albeit not terribly strongly (like a 12 progesterone level on 7 dpo). Unfortunately, I didn't find out about the levels until I was in the middle of an IVF cycle. I am now pregnant, but I will definitely do an MRI after I have the baby to see what's going on in there.
