I love wearing my baby, but she is almost 25 lbs at 5 months old and she is quickly approaching the weight limit of the Baby Bjorn. I have been looking into carriers with a higher weight limit and I am loving the look of the Tula and the fact that I can wear her up to 60 lbs in the toddler size. My husband looked at me like I was insane when I mentioned that they are $170. I feel like it would be totally worth it to buy a carrier that will grow with our enormous child! Votes for the Tula? Any other carriers you prefer for huge kids?

our Tula. We just have a standard and I wore my daughter a ton, she was 19 lbs at 6 months so I feel you on the big baby side. She is 2 now and will not tolerate being worn anymore, except on my SO's back occasionally but both of us can still comfortably use the carrier. I found it to be very comfortable and easy to put on myself whether I was wearing her on my front or back once she was big enough. I have never re-sold a Tula but I know they hold their value really well and depending on how popular a pattern is it can be sold for more than the original price.

I have a Tula that I used with dd1 until she was 22 months old and I was 3 months pregnant, I'm now using it with dd2. I really like it. I don't think they re sale for as much anymore since they're more common. Also for the toddler Tula a lot is about height so unless baby is in 2t pants I'd get the standard.

I love my Tula even though we barely babywear with it (LO is too active at 15m) . It is SO comfortable for us and secure for LO. I have a toddler Tula because LO is tall and likes to lean out while babywearing. Like I said, we don't use it a ton, but it was really helpful at the zoo, airport, the mall, and when he is sick.
They sometimes go on sale...? -

We love our Tulas! A few of the smaller boutiques that carry Tulas have them on sale and there are Facebook buy sell trade boards that you can get used for discountes prices.

I have an ergo and I so wish I had known about Tulas! My kid had really long legs and outgrew out Ergo way faster than I anticipated.

The Tula didn't work great for me personally because I'm petite. But there are several very comfy toddler carriers. My personal favorite is the Connecta. In either case, I think it's worth the money. And you can sell them when you are done to recoup a lot of the money.

I think if you want a buckle carrier, Tula's the way to go. But keep in mind the toddler version won't really fit your LO until she's in 2T pants. You should get a lot of mileage out of a regular Tula though.

I love our lillebaby and you can use it from 7 to 45 lbs. They have some good sales -- you can often find them for less than $100.

I definitely recommend seeking out your local babywearing Facebook group (they usually have regular meetups) and trying out some different SSC carriers to find what works best for you. They're also a great resource for specific carrier questions. I don't have a Tula, but I have a Lillebaby which is very similar. We've been using it since DS was 5 weeks old and he's now 12 months and 30.5lbs (he was 25lbs at 6 months, for reference). It's super comfortable, great for a heavy/tall baby, and has definitely been very worth it. I imagine a Tula would be worth it too (either Standard or Toddler - like ShootingStar said, the toddler version is okay for use once they're in 2T pants and have longer legs). What carrier is most comfortable/worth it is really individual and depends on your baby, your body, your partner's body if they plan on using the carrier, for how long you plan on using the carrier, how often, etc.
That said, I really do recommend a Lillebaby, especially for a large baby, but I'm biased haha

I agree with other posters that it's great to try carriers on if possible. Every carrier fits everyone differently. That said, we love our tulas. We babywear a lot, so it's been well worth it for us. We have two standards--one for me and one for my husband, so we don't have to readjust daily--and one toddler that my kiddo hasn't grown into yet. Tulas are great for carrying for longer periods of time and distributing the weight well. However, unless your kiddo is crazy tall, a standard would most likely be your best bet. My 20 month old is slim, but tall. She's 35 inches and 22 lbs and is just starting to fit into 2t paths comfortably. She has a bit more growing to do before she fits in the toddler, and still fits perfectly in our standards.

I think any good carrier (Tula, Ergo, Manduca, Lillebaby etc) is worth the higher price because they're a good quality item and they hold their resale value.

@caterw: I absolutely love mine and use it every day. I would say that DH struggles to front carry DS for long distances and I can do it for about an hour before I have to back carry. We both can easily back carry for 2 hours. LO is about the size of yours, but I can't imagine I'd have the strength to front carry past 40 lbs. I have gone backpacking with a 60 lb pack and it isn't that easy, so you may want to keep in perspective that you might not have the strength for the upper limit for long distances.
Eta: my kiddo fits great in the standard. He's too small for the toddler (we have both). My guess is he will move up around 2.

If you join Tula BST groups you can get one for less! But they hold their values very good so it's not going to be THAT much cheaper. I have a few carriers current and past - Beco, Ergo, Tula, Connecta... I love all of them for different reasons but Tula definitely is amazing! You can also look into Kinderpack... They make for up to preschool kids!
