anyone use unpaper towels? i wanna make some and i'm thinking they could also be a nice christmas gift to make for people. i'm seeing some with snaps and others with velcro, also some with terry cloth and others made with birds eye cloth. anyone have some and have thoughts on which would be best? i'm thinking snaps might hold up longer & birds eye might have less lint, not sure though

I don't have any but my friend does. I love them. Do the snaps, velcro would possibly hurt finishes and little kids.

@mrs. bird: we still use paper towels but we do have dish rags that we use for easy wipe ups. I think they are 'birds eye' material. My mom gets them in bulk every time she goes back to China.
We also use cloth for drying dishes and hands. But we still have paper towels and napkins.
I really want to work on eliminating paper from the kitchen!I just need to suck it up and pay for nice cloth napkins.

@locavore_mama: they don't have to be nice napkins! i've only bought paper napkins for parties, we've always used cloth napkins, my mom always used cloth napkins so maybe it's just what i'm used to. i buy them at tj maxx and i have two dozen matching ones from my bridal shower. they aren't fancy, but they work! i mostly use cleaning cloths, but DH loves paper towels, drives me nutty! so i wanna make some unpaper towels to convert him to the cloth side

We use cheap dish towels from ikea in place of paper towels most of the time. I kept looking into making or buying a fancier system but we just kept grabbing a handful each time we went to Ikea and now have a pretty good stash. They live in a drawer in our kitchen and get dropped into a bucket in our stairwell when we are done with them. I knew I would never keep up with resnapping all the towels or velcroing them together!
We transitioned by hiding the paper towels under the sink and leaving a stack of the towels out where the paper towels were. Once it was habit I moved them to the drawer. We do still keep paper towels on hand for the odd ball gross thing or when we are about to travel and don't want food laundry left etc. We are down to only using a few rolls a year though!
