I voted 6 weeks, but that's just me. It took me a while to be able to sit for long periods of time, and DD hated the car until she was 4 months old.

I went to a local wedding at 2 weeks and was fine. But I would NOT want to sit in a car for 3 hours at 3 weeks PP IF LO arrived on time!

i had a c section and i feel like it only took me a couple of weeks before i would have been okay to go to a wedding, though i was not at full speed so i probably would not have been dancing the night away. but i was out doing errands. And L just slept in the car whenever we went anywhere back then. The sleep deprivation however would have stripped me of any desire to go out and take part in the real world, even though physically i could have handled it. Not to mention i was still new to breastfeeding and so it would have stressed me out the thought of having to BF at a wedding. So i guess there are other things other than physical recovery to consider.

We took a 6 hour road trip w LO 10 days post Partum and it was fine. I had a 2nd degree tear with stitches. Eta: agree with others the limiting factor for me would be the wedding, not the car ride. I was in no position to be getting dressed up, socializing til at least 6 weeks pp.

With my first, I was pretty much back to normal within 2 weeks; with my second, I was fine pretty much as soon as we left the hospital (4 days pp).

Can you bring your LO to the wedding? I definitely would not have been able to leave either of my kids at 3 weeks, but I would have had no issues attending a wedding with them at that age.

I would have been fine for the car ride and so would lo. (I had a vaginal birth with no complications to me.) But I would have been exhausted! If you want to make an appearance at the wedding, so it, but don't plan on much...keep it really flexible. But c-sections and tears require much more healing time.

Additionally: you might not want lo around people, especially so many in a small place that will all want to see him/her.

I had my lo really early, so he was in the NICU until after he was term.

So basically it's really hard to know for sure, no matter what your plan would have to be really flexible, but I would probably send my regrets unless it's someone very important to you.

OK-There are 2 sides of this:

Part 1- I was physically able to travel at like 2w? I remember going grocery shopping and running errands when my LO was like 8 days old, by pumping and leaving him with daddy. I was totally functionable, even though I had a tear and an episiotomy and had 24+ stitches.

Part 2- the emotional part, the paranoid part....I was not in the mood to socialize, I was not in the mood to dress up, I didn't have the mental capacity to be concerned with anything other than baby, Also, I was extremely paranoid about illness, so I kept him indoors and allowed visitors 1 by 1 or 2 by 2. There was no way I was taking him to a wedding.

Don't just think about your physical abilities, but your social abilities, mental capacities and emotions during that time. They will be crazy.
Also, consider a colicky baby and/or one that gets sick easily, and if you're nursing, driving all that way will be extra fun

It might have been possible if I wasn't breastfeeding.

But post-partum recovery wise, I was still a hot mess down there and wouldn't have wanted to mess with bringing all of my comfort measures with me (pads/numbing spray/peri bottle/ etc.)

I would not have wanted to go to a wedding that was a 3 hour drive away.

- Newborn that little in the car could be a pain. At that age the car did not put her to sleep.
- I was nursing every 1.5 hours at that time, and required pillows, etc to get a good latch
- I wouldn't have been comfortable sitting in a car that long.
- Emotionally and sleep wise, I wouldn't be up for a big trip like that until closer to 6-8 weeks.

Also, this is assuming he comes on time, what if he's a week or two late and you are only 1 or 2 weeks PP?

It's hard to know, if your LO is going to come late or Twhat type of delivery. I think your best bet is to play it by ear.

I was up and running, well jogging, and we did a 3 hour car ride at 3 weeks pp. It did take a little longer because we stopped to settle baby and give her a brief nursing but we only stopped for 20 min. She was pretty good on the car ride and there wasn't anything stressful about the trip, though I was going to visit family so I had time to rest once I was there because they took care of meals and helped with baby.

At 1 week I was exhausted and had a bad tear that had reopened
At 2 weeks I had mastitis and had a 102 fever
So 3 weeks is really the earliest I could have done a trip.

With my first, I had a 2nd degree tear and felt OK after 2 weeks. With my 2nd, I had no tears and felt good right away, so within a week.

The thing I'd be most concerned about would be the breastfeeding part if you plan to do it. It is a lot of on-demand feeding those first few months as you get your milk supply established, and depending on your LO's latch, it could be difficult trying to feed on the road since they're still so "floppy" and small at that time. It takes a lot of effort in the beginning.

I honestly don't think I would want to take a 3-hour long road trip at 3 weeks postpartum even with an easy baby. I'd still be too sleep deprived and exhausted. But that's just me.

Whoops, I took this to mean literally running. Was wondering who was working out 1 week PP, because I certainly wasn't!

To answer the question, I wasn't in pain at 3 weeks PP. I think I could have done a trip if not for all of our breastfeeding issues. I was attached to LO practically all day at that point!

Days? Lol. But it was bad because although i FELT great, I had lingering gestational hypertension so it wasn't good me to be out and about.

We walked to a community "fair" within 72 hours of DS being born and spent 45 minutes there with him in the Moby.

I was just relieved to not be pregnant anymore, lol.
