I had my dog outside I the backyard for 10 minutes, and he came in and his eye is completely swollen and puffy? What do you think? Bug bite? Allergy?
Think they is ER vet worthy? I've never seen anything like this before!

From your pictures it doesn't seem ER vet worthy. Maybe he got bit/stung by something? That happened to my dog and her whole lip swelled up. We just gave her 1/2 a tablet of benadryl and she was fine. But your instincts are probably best so follow them!

@MrsBrewer: Bendryl is safe for dogs. My dog gets a swollen eye once in a while and Benedryl helps.

I don't know what my dog gets into when we take her to the dog park.
If it doesn't go away in a few hours, you might want to call the vet.

yeah, my dog is 68 lbs, this was when she was younger and our vet said to give her 1/2 of a 25mg tab

@MrsBrewer: I use to give mine one tab twice a day for her allergies. She is 30 pounds so it would totally be safe for your dog.

@bluestriped bee: @Emsmems: ok just gave him a full Benadryl, he's 80 lbs so I'm sure he can handle it

I have no idea, but poor pup!! He's got such a sweet face!
(We've given our dog Benadryl many times!)

So this doesn't look horrible though? I'm so paranoid, I've never had a dog before, and he seems to get into everything!

I would say its just a reaction to a bug bite of some sort. Our dog desided to lick up fire ants and they bit her on the inside of her lips and her whole snout/ lip area swelled. It was hillarious and the only reason we know what happened was the ants were still clinging on to the inside of her mouth when she came in from outside.

@MrsBrewer: I hope the swelling goes down soon. A safe dosage is 1mg per pound so depending upon how strong your benedryl is you might want to give him more.

We give our dog Benadryl for allergies, so yes totally safe and a good way to start for this. If you are concerned I never hesitate to call the vet and ask for their suggestions, my vet office is great about letting me know if they do not think its an emergency, and what I can try at home. I suspect the Benadryl will help though!

Oh man DH is laughing at me for being this nervous! I'm sure the Benadryl will help. It's just funny because he just got the biggest burst of energy just now, so I know he's not in pain or anything at least.

Took me a while to find this pic but here is my dog with a swollen eye. My DH posted this on Facebook with the caption 'Cut me, Mick. Cut Me.' From one of the 'Rocky' movie. DH is a jokester! Haha!
I would say your dog is fine but I'm not vet.

@bluestriped bee: awwww! Too funny about the caption your DH wrote!
I'm just a worried puppy momma hahahah. DH says he's worried now about when he have kids and how I'm going to react with them!

@MrsBrewer: oh, I'm such a protective momma for my dog. I find her with little cuts and I pull out the hydrogen peroxide to make sure it's clean and healing. She's my baby! I worry about her so much.

@bluestriped bee: I'm so glad I'm not the only one! I don't have LO's yet, so he's my baby! Although even when I do have kids, I don't think it will change!
I just want to say though, thanks for the quick responses everyone, and for taking me off the bridge. Sometimes I over react case in point! I love Hellobee for getting such quick answers/guidance

@MrsBrewer: as someone who paid $105 for a vet visit ($100) and benadryl ($5) I say wait it out! It happened to my pug's lip once and I flipped and took her in. Just irritation from a bug bite, was gone within 24 hours. If your dog seems bothered tomorrow and it's not reducing then it's time to go to the vet. Feel better puppy!!!

@MrsBrewer: Yeah... Did you see my response about my dog having a seatbelt in the car? http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/traveling-by-car-with-baby-and-large-dog-help#post-868865
People laugh at her seatbelt all the time. She's safe that's all that matters.
