USA WOHM- How much maternity leave did you take? I'm thinking about taking 4 months, maybe 5.

6 weeks and I was in the office 10 hours on the 2 weeks prior to coming back. It was all unpaid.

12 weeks.
Eta: I did some work from home in the last few weeks of my leave, so the first few weeks I was back I worked 4 days a week instead of 5.
I also got pulled at 38 weeks by my doctor, so I was out for 2 weeks before LO's birth.

12 weeks for LO 1 and 17 for LO 2. Short term disability for 8 weeks and unpaid for the rest.

18 weeks. I negotiated for 16 with a specific return date, but then DD came early...
I was *not* ready to go back at 12 weeks, but I sure was by 16.
The transition was made a lot easier by mom, who came for the first two weeks I was back at work. Then DH took two weeks off, so I had 4 more weeks without having to worry about child care, which was *really* nice.
I took 7 weeks of paid sick leave, 1 week of paid annual leave, and then 10 weeks of leave without pay. That sucked. But I would do it again in a heartbeat.

4 months off, then returned to work for 2 months at a reduced schedule (3 days per week), before becoming a SAHM.

Close to 4 months. 2 weeks were taken before (unplanned modified bed rest). Besides my vacation/sick time I'd accrued, it was unpaid. But worth it.

10 weeks.
6 weeks paid leave, 3 weeks I used my saved up medical and vacation time, 1 week unpaid. I wish I could have taken the full 12 weeks I was entitled to under FMLA but we just couldn't afford the 2 extra weeks of no pay.

@septca: this would be pretty much be unpaid, my benefits SUCK. But we don't need my income so it's not a big deal to go unpaid.

6.5 weeks paid, and the first 2 weeks back our daycare provider came to our home so I could see LO at lunch and nurse her. Taking unpaid wasn't an option for us at this point, which made both DH and I sad.

12 weeks, officially, totally unpaid (we aren't allowed to use saved up sick leave). But I actually got 5 months because I'm a teacher and I delivered at the beginning of our summer. So the 12 weeks started when school started in Sept. I wasn't ready and would have loved an extra month.
Truthfully, I'd love a whole year.

Probably the usual 12 weeks unpaid and I will WAH maybe in the 3rd month to salvage some pay...

8 weeks. 4 of those were unpaid. I could only have taken a max of 12 weeks, but we couldn't do without my income for that long.

6 months. 2 weeks paid in full (saved vacation/sick days), 6 weeks short-term disability. The rest was unpaid (but I got to keep my benefits).

I took 4.5 months before going back to work full time. I would have loved 8 months!

"Maternity Leave?"
I took 3 months off. I got paid 66% of my salary for 4 of those weeks, took 4 weeks PTO and the rest was unpaid.

12 weeks - 5 weeks company paid, 4 weeks sick/vacation time, 3 unpaid.

12 weeks with both kids - 8 weeks STD, used 2 weeks vacation, and 2 weeks unpaid. I wish I had an actual maternity leave policy.
blogger / pomegranate / 3201 posts
I took 12 weeks official maternity leave, two before he was born, but I also had summer vacation added to that, so I got almost 5 months total.

12 weeks. 4 weeks were covered by PTO. Another 4 were covered by my disability insurance. The other 4 were unpaid. (Technically I also received $170/week from NY State for six weeks, but that is such a joke of a benefit that I am not counting it. That barely makes a dent in our mortgage payment.)
I would have taken 16 weeks, but I would have lost my benefits for the last month. It wasn't worth the disruption. (I guess we would have switched to my husband's health insurance, but his coverage is terrible compared to my benefit.)

I took 12 weeks. 8 weeks came from my sick days and 4 weeks from my vacation days. I also worked used more of my vacation time to take Fridays off in August.

8 weeks paid with my first, 10 unpaid with my second. I had them 17 months apart.

8 weeks total. 6 weeks STD paid at 60% of my salary and 2 weeks of vacation leave.
persimmon / 1165 posts
8 weeks paid, then 4 weeks I worked from home so it was kinda like 3 months.

12 weeks total - 6 paid, 6 unpaid. I'd take longer if we didn't need my health insurance.

10 weeks with the first, and it's likely to be 8 weeks with this one. Unfortunately we need my income.
blogger / watermelon / 14218 posts
I was a SAHM with my first, but with my second I took 5 weeks unpaid (I'm a contractor).
pomelo / 5524 posts
12 weeks under FMLA. 8 weeks of it was partially paid through STD since I had a C-section, and I accrued enough vacation to cover the last 4 weeks, but they would have been unpaid if I didn't have the vacation available.
pomelo / 5220 posts
12 weeks under FMLA, I should have enough sick time and vacation time to pay for about 10 weeks of it. However, I will probably save some vacation and sick time for when I return to work just in case I need it.
grapefruit / 4066 posts
12 weeks FMLA, 6 weeks covered by STD which paid 100%, 3 weeks were a combo of vacation/sick days, and 3 weeks were unpaid. I was ready to go back at 12 weeks, but I only had to work 24 hours a week for a few months, so it wasnt too bad.
