We’re looking to visit Zion national park for a weekend. It’s about a 5 hour drive from us so we want to stay as reasonably close to the park as possible. I was trying to find places but then the reviews say they’re not as close as advertised. Any help? Thanks!!

Not from Utah, but I can help you out. The hotels near Zion are located in Springdale. It has essentially one main road that most of the hotels are located on. During high season, there is a shuttle bus that stops in front of every hotel cluster and gets you to the park entrance. I'm not sure if it would be running now because we went in the summer, but I'm sure if you call your hotel they will know. The closest hotels to the park are walking distance, but even the "far" ones are just a few minute's drive. We stayed at the Quality Inn, which was nothing special, just what was available when we went. It was about 15 minutes walk from the park entrance but we elected to take the shuttle most times because we didn't want the kids getting tired before we even started. There is a separate shuttle that is inside the park and gets you to the trailheads. We love, love, loved it! It's on our list to go back to when the kids are a little older for some more serious hiking! Enjoy!

Yep. If you're close to a shuttle stop you're set. Most hotels in Springdale are by one. They essentially have two shuttles. One that runs through the town and various parking lots to the park entrance and then a separate shuttle that runs within the park. You should be able to see on the website if both shuttle are running when you go.

We ended up booking an AirBNB that mapquest says is 15-20 minute drive. Is parking a hassle? Are there any must see things or places to eat?

Parking can be a hassle after about 9 in the morning. Since you'll be going in the off season you might be able to find spots till 10.
The only must-have I'd suggest is getting treats at the lodge and having a little picnic on the grass. Keep an eye on your kids if you go on the hike with the dripping water (the Weeping Wall I think?) because you can get sick from the water but my kids can't stop from opening their mouths.......
