Do you give your LO vitamin D drops? If so, when did you start?
Do you give your LO vitamin D drops? If so, when did you start?

I do, and I started when my pediatrician told me to, so it was probably around 2 weeks.

Yep, every day. I don't remember when we started though. It was pretty early on.

Yes because he was a winter baby, we started at maybe 2 weeks (carlsons off amazon) and stopped once we were outside daily this spring.

We started at about the one month mark, but she hated it and would often spit up immediately afterwards...so we stopped. Around 4 months I discovered Baby D Drops and we've been using those ever since! So nice because it's literally just one drop and she doesn't even notice

Same as @scg00387:. LO was born in Nov and we did the drops until about April when we started to have a lot more time out in the sun. My pedi told me he doesn't suggest them to spring/summer babies but does for fall/winter.

Very interesting! The reason I ask is my pediatrician didn't mention giving them to LO. I wonder if its because he's a summer baby. I'll have to ask at his next appointment.

We started when my mw recommended it at 6 weeks. Apparently we should have done it sooner, but oh we'll! It's also so hard to remember to do it every day... I'm trying

@Pepper: my pediatrician told us to start at our first appointment two days after getting out of the hospital. We are using d-vi-sol and LO loves the drops!

We started right away per her pedi. She was born in Feb but I think our practice recommends them for all bf babies. They recommend D-Vi-Sol but we didn't like the artificial colors and flavors so we use Baby D Drops. I drop in right on my nipple and LO has never seemed to notice it.

I never have (LO is 12 weeks) and my ped never mentioned it! LO was born in April.

We started right when we came home from the hospital. It is hard to remember every day though.

We did when he wasn't getting out much but after reading into it more, the study that prompted the recommendation featured primarily darker-skinned babies who lived in Michigan. Darker skin=more melonin, more melonin makes it harder for the body to create vitamin D through sun exposure. And living in Michigan, a cooler climate, the babies weren't often exposed to sunlight. So they were found to be deficient in vitamin D.
My LO has a light skin tone and is exposed to the sunshine often, as am I, so it's pretty unlikely he'd be deficient so we don't use vitamin d drops with much regularity.

My pediatrician mentioned it at 6 months old. I did it once and never again. We haven't had any issues. There are some caveats: he was born in the spring and we live in a place that has sun on average 360 days a year. So I didn't feel the need for it. A place that actually has winter I might have felt differently.
We also had blood tests done a number of times and Vitamin D levels were never low on those tests so I didn't feel like unnecessary drops. If the tests ever came up low I would have done it in a heart beat.

We started from the beginning (we lived in Seattle). Use Carlson's D drops.

Yep! Started around two weeks. We are pretty good about remembering to do every day.

Nope. We live in central California. It's sunny all the time. No need for them here!
