Today’s routine weight check for our little two week old DS turned into a surprise visit to the pediatric cardiology unit at the hospital and a diagnosis of VSD, ventricular septal defect. Right now they just have us keeping a close eye on him and his weight gain, and we’ll go back in four weeks when his heart will be more developed and they can determine how serious it is and what treatment will be needed.

Feeling very grateful our doctor heard a murmur and had us follow up so we could catch this early, but nervous for what the next few weeks will bring. Would love to hear from anyone else who has experienced a VSD diagnosis and in particular what signs and symptoms you kept a close watch on if you were monitoring it—right now my biggest fear is that it will suddenly worsen and we won’t notice the signs fast enough (though we’re obviously on high alert). @ajsmommy I saw your psa post on this and the list of symptoms was really helpful.
