I WAH and sent the babysitter out with DD every day. She always knew I was here and I couldn't work. Our apartment is relatively small though, so it's not like I could have hidden at my desk while they played here.

Mine is only 7 months old and so far it's out of sight, out of mind. He is obsessed with my sitter and she only comes 1-2 days a week so he has a lot of fun with her. I'm sure that will change though once separation anxiety sets in.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I've read it starts around 8 months. He's 7 months now and he's JUST starting to fuss if I walk away. He's usually ok after a few seconds, but it's new that he even cares that much. But, that's only if it's just the two of us. If the sitter or my husband is with him, he's ok with me coming and going.
I was away last weekend and I think he kinda forgot about me until I got back and he freaked out (in a good way).

I WAH and am often here when my kids are with the nanny, but they don't usually give me grief. They are older, though -- 17 mos and 3. I make myself relatively scarce whenever possible and they really love her, which helps.

Not a WAHM but definitely have had this.. Eventually they get used to it I think. When dd had to be with grandma for extended times she always got used to it even as a stubborn toddler.

I've nannied for families with both a WAH dad and a WAH mom. The one with the dad I was with from around 8 weeks to 18 months. She never had any problems with it, or any tendency to want dad just because he was there. The one with the mom I was only with a few months, from around 6mo to 9mo. Again, never had any issues. Mom came out to get food and things and we'd talk, and sometimes the baby would want to go to her, sometimes she wouldn't. She never minded being handed back off though.
