I'm hearing different things about when the LO is supposed to give up the bottle.
When are they "supposed to" stop drinking from the bottle? And if no bottle, is it simply just a cup/sippy cup/straw cup?

@Rubies: I thought your LO doesn't drink from a bottle.
LO has her 9 month apt tomorrow, I think I'll be asking that question.

It would be great if you could get rid of them by a year! It's harder to get rid of them later.

I'd say 1 year. It seems like people who wait longer, never seem to be able to get rid of it!

Wow, this is very interesting, I had no idea! A year, huh? Good thing I asked!

we went to the pediatrician today. She said that we should try to transition starting now (LO is a year old). I think she said by 15 months we really should try to be off of it. I think the reasoning is that if LO can drink from a sippy or straw cup, then you don't want them using the bottle for comfort. We're also transitioning from formula to whole milk so this will put a little kink in things since we don't want to change too many things at once....so yeah, 15 months is our target to be off the bottle.

We got rid of the bottle with the cow's milk transition at 12 months. Went straight to straw cups. It went great! He didn't drink much in the first few weeks but he ate plenty of dairy so our pedi said it was fine.

Same as @mrs.wagon. We weaned him off the bottle into straw cups when we started regular milk at 12 months.

Thanks for posting this! We have been doing sippy cups during the day & if I don't get up to nurse @ night DH sometimes tries a bottle but now I think we will stop that since DD is almost 1.

yup it's discouraged after 1. i think it can affect how their teeth grow in and it also places LOs at higher risk for cavities.
I've had a tough 9 months with DD2 not taking a bottle but I'm sort of glad we're going to just skip to straws/sippies at this point because bottle-weaning isn't fun either.
