Did you/do you wake your baby during the day to nurse? Baby is 5 weeks old, EBF. Yesterday was the first day during the day where she really took some good, quality naps (around 2-2.5 hours each) and twice she didn't nurse for a total of 4 hours. She normally always wakes to eat every 2-3 hours. Should I be waking her after 3 hours of not nursing to eat? We don't wake her at night to nurse, but she never waits for 4 hours! (which would be wonderful)! Last night she only made it for 2 hours in between nursing...do you guys think this is because I didn't fill her up during the day? Baby sleep is so confusing!

I would wake during the day if you think it is causes LO to wake up more during the day.

Yes during the day I woke her every three hours to eat specifically so that she would get enough during the day to sleep better at night.

Yep, I did, especially at that age. They need to eat more frequently for sure. I used to nurse every three hours no matter what. Baby sleep is really confusing, especially with your first!

I would wake every 2.5-3 hours during the day. It almost sounds like your LO may be confusing days and nights, you want them to do those longer 4 hours stretches at night!

Yes, our ped says we have to because they were small at birth (4 lb 15 oz and 5 lb 15 oz) and didn't gain very quickly. Even now at almost 5 weeks they are only a little over 7 lb and a little over 6. I wake them every 2.5-3 hours during the day if they don't wake up sooner. We just got the okay last week to go 4 hours at night, but they never actually go 4 hours. We're at about every 3.5 hours instead.

Thanks guys! Yeah, she seemed to have her days and nights almost straight until yesterday and then I thought maybe not so much! I will be waking her today, because she was going for 3.5 hours at night most recently until yesterday!
Also, she took a nap yesterday from 5-7, which I woke her at 7 to nurse. She cluster fed until around 11, but never fell back asleep between 7 and 11. Is her sleeping until 7 setting us up for a bad night of sleep? Sorry for all the obvious first time mom questions, I am clearly clueless. -
I know you're not supposed to wake a sleeping baby but I wouldn't let DS nap longer than 3 hours during the day so that he wouldn't mix up his nights/days.
As for your second question, DS never went to sleep for the night until around 10 or 11 until he hit around 12 weeks. He would regularly take a nap around 5. I think you're good. It's just about survival at this point!
