So, would you ladies like your water to break or kinda go through labor slowly and eventually head to the hospital?
The suspense of The end of pregnancy is really tough on my active imagination! My dreams have been wild and I'm so ready to have this baby! 37 weeks 2 days here! It doesn't help the doctor said 1 week or 2 for labor to start! Ack! Yay!

My water didn't break, but I labored (relatively) quickly! Started having contractions at 2am. Had my baby 12 hours later at 2pm!

I want my water to break - I've had contractions since 30 weeks and so feel like I'm going to be really confused about when it's the real thing!

I think I'd like to start having noticeable contractions before my water breaks so I feel like I'm making progress. Otherwise, if my water breaks first, I think I'll feel anxious about labor starting on it's own during my 24 hour window.
But I am ready to be done! 36 + 1 today, and I'm telling people I'm due between 2-6 weeks (assuming a 10 day swing either way!).

I liked the idea of my water breaking so I would know for sure to go to the hospital. I had contractions that weren't making me dilate at first so I was sent home.

I wouldn't mind my water breaking because then there's no if ands or buts. But not while at work please!

I was glad that my water broke because, even though my contractions were 3-5 min apart, I thought it was another false alarm.... until my water broke in the middle of the restaurant.

I didn't want mine to break (messy). It broke prior to delivery in the hospital where I didn't have to deal with it

40+1 here and not sure what I want to happen first. In many ways, it grosses me out to think about my water breaking. Honestly, how to you clean that up while you're in labor? What if it happens on the couch or in a chair that's not the mattress with the waterproof cover!? Yes, these are the things that I'm thinking about!
At this point, bring on the contractions. I think I've only had maybe 3 that didn't feel like BH. But, at the same time, if my water were to break, I would know that one way or another, we would be heading in within 24 hours!

It does seem strange, but I would rather my water break. I feel like that's a clear sign that says go to the hospital! Over the weekend I went to the hospital after having some intense contractions and it ended up being a false alarm, we were sent home after 3 hours of sitting in the uncomfortable triage room. It was kind of a bummer! I so do not want to have a false alarm again, I am nervous I won't know what is real at this point!

With DD, my water broke at work, but it was just a small leak, so it wasn't too much liquid at once; more like a slow leak. With DS, my water didn't break until I was 6 cms. If I had to choose again, I'd prefer my water break right at the beginning of labor so there's no mistaking it! The end is hard enough with second guessing every little twinge of pain; I'd rather know for sure I was in labor than guess about contractions.

My water broke in the middle of the night and then I was off the hospital. Delivered my LO 6 hours later. I wouldn't mind it happening the same way again for #2 because everything came kind of quickly. There was no waiting around for anyone.

At this point I feel baby movement mixed with braxton hicks and like vaginal pain. No idea if these are contractions, practice labor, or just me dialating/effacing more but the water breaking seems like a sure thing!!

My OB broke my water. The pain after was 1000% worse so I would vote to hold off on the water breaking! I found contractions to be fairly unmistakeable!

@winniebee: Yes. I think it will make everything more "obvious" so I also want my water to break, just so I really know what's going on!

I was glad my water broke! Since I was two hours from my hospital (!) it was a sure sign to go in

I didn't want my water to break for 2 reasons:
(1) It's way too messy!
(2) If your water breaks and you don't start having real labor contractions pretty soon afterwards, then your doctor will make you go to the hospital and get induced. I wanted to have a natural labor, so I was happy to have contractions first.
In the end they broke my water at the hospital when I was 5-6 cm dilated. Who knows when it would have broken on its own...

mine broke with DS, and i really wanted it to break with DD, but it didn't. and labor wasn't slow with her either, walked in at 9 cm dialated and she was born 1/2 hour later!
