I am at my wits end. I need sleep! I WOH full-time and am so sick of being a zombie. LO1 was such a good sleeper and this girl...just...isn't. She goes down well and falls asleep on her own, but she is still waking up. She is relentless with the crying and pretty much nursing is the only thing to calm her. I've been sick this week and I'm just at the end of my rope with it! I try to let her cry but she'll cry for an hour and i give in. I'm soooo sick of not sleeping!! Here I am, nursing her as I type at 220 am. I feel like we should be past this by now.

6-7 months was about when my LO got very difficult to put back to bed after nursing, we survived by nursing and then co-sleeping (not sure if this would be an option for you?).

My first LO didn't STTN until just after 1 year.
My 2nd LO is 11 months and still hasn't.

She didn't sleep through regularly until after the 9 month regression. We had one wake up at 3am at 7 months.

He did but we did Ferber sleep training to get there. It was a disaster before though!

I think at 7 months we finally got back into a groove of 6pm - 5am. It didn't last too long though. At 8.5 we're back to 1-2 wake ups before 5am

She will sleep a good chunk here and there, but this is new. Last night she slept 6:30-5:30 and then nursed, and she's currently still sleeping. But the other night she was up at 11pm and 4am, so it varies. She's almost 8 months.

M is 7 months and not sleeping through the night. He goes down by 8 pm, and on a good night, he's up once, at any time from 1-3am to nurse and goes back down. Last night his teeth were bothering him, so he had a rough start before I gave him tylenol at 1 pm, which got him sleeping until 5:30 this morning.
He sometimes wakes up before the 1-3 pm feeding, but I can usually give him his pacifier and be done for a few more hours.
I'm ready to have a baby sleep through, too!

No. It was all kinds of miserable. She didn't sleep through the night until just after a year

DS1 is not a sleeper when I accepted that, it made my and his life easier. He's 14 months and I get one 10 hour stretch and maybe 2 30-45min naps a day he just doesn't need that much sleep.
At 7 months we were still waking 3-4 times a night. -
We were still up about 4 times a night at that age. We had tried sleep training around 6 months, clearly to no avail.

My lo is 6 mo and hasn't sttn since she was 3 mo. She puts herself to sleep for bed but wakes up 1-3 times befor 4am for her paci and then often is done sleeping at 430 or 5 unless I rock her (which I do) until 6 or 630. She won't eat motn though. Just wants her paci and to be held.

My LO is 15 months and didn't STTN till days before she turned 1 year...and did that (with a very, very early morning wakeup) for a few months. But now she is back to a 4 am wakeup and sometimes falling back asleep till 6 or so. =(

I didn't vote because my answer is more like, she occasionally did. There was no rhyme or reason. Otherwise she woke up once, I nursed her and she went back down. At 8 months she had 4 teeth coming in at the same time and we had a horrible 6 weeks of sleep. It is always changing for us.

My almost 9 month old wakes 1-2 times a night still to eat (typically twice). She goes down at 7pm, wakes between 10-12 and again (most of the time) at 4. Then back down until 7. It's pretty normal for them to still be waking in the MOTN 1-3 times at 7 months.

My 12 month old is still hit or miss with STTN, and only a max of 7-8 hours. At 7 months she was waking up crying every 2-3 hours. I've been there and I feel your pain.

I didn't vote because none of the options fit, but I am 100% convinced that my lo needed to eat between 2 and 3 until he was about 11 months old. The doctors told me he didn't need to, but he went to sleep well on his own, woke up at a slightly different time in the MON every night, and went right back to sleep after he ate. If i fed him less he would protest and want more. Some kids just need that feeding and I think that is okay. LO did sleep 8-9 hours from about 8 weeks (from 6-2/3) but dream feeds didnt help and moving bedtime later didn't help. No matter what he needed that MON feeding, until he was older. Right around 12 months when we stopped formula I started decreasing the amount I offered and he didn't protest, so I weaned him by continuing to decrease the amount, and then switching to only offering water...he weaned himself at that point over the course of a week or two.
I just want to add, going to sleep on her own means that she IS a good sleeper, even if it doesn't feel like it. I totally get how much it sucks to have that one MON waking (especially when so many people have babies who don't need it) but it won't last forever

Thanks for listening to my MOTN rant everyone! At least I feel better that she's not abnormal. Everyone, including my pedi tells me she should no longer need that MOTN feed. I think I'll just stop trying to resist it and we'll all sleep better! I've been trying to get her to go without and just give her a paci and comfort her, but then we are up for an hour and I give in and nurse anyway. Between her and the occasional wake ups by my two year old, I feel so sleep-deprived.

@Mrs. Lion: I am thankful that she goes down easy at night now. That was something we had to work on! I don't nurse her to sleep now which is huge. I was wondering if she was just having trouble getting herself back to sleep and just wanted to comfort nurse MOTN. Thanks for the reassurance and hopefully we'll get there!

@Amelieisme: I am assuming you use bottles because you woh...could you switch to a bottle in the MON so you know that it isn't just comfort nursing? Or maybe you and dh can alternate nights? I know you must be so tired

Hell no. My first daughter didn't sleep that long until almost 2 and my 11-month old currently sleeps in 4-5 hour stretches. Still nursing 2x a night (but more now cause she's teething).

@Amelieisme: My LO was sleeping through the night early, but I am convinced that was due to formula and early sleep training. Your situation doesn't sound abnormal, but that doesn't mean it isn't really tough. My only advice: is there any way your husband can take over some if the wakings? If she's up just out of habit/to comfort nurse, she should learn after a couple of nights that nursing just isn't going to happen.

We've had ups and downs but at 19 months, he's still not consistently sleeping through the night.

He woke to feed at 1am until 11.5 months, I believe. He didn't consistently sleep through the night until after a year. And he still wakes a couple of times a week at 2.5 years just to come crawl in bed with us.

@Mrs. Lion: I do BM only and it's hard enough to pump enough to keep up with her daytime needs...can't waste the stuff when I'm in the next room!

Hahahaha. My son didn't sleep through the night until I weaned him at 14 m, and didn't sleep through consistently until 16 m. Also a WOHM here, I totally feel your pain. And am praying that #2 will be a better sleeper.

At that age, mine woke between 1 and 3 times per night. I guess technically she may have slept 9 hrs but since he bedtime is around 7pm, that wasn't too helpful. She didn't sleep a solid 11-12 hrs straight until 10 months, although she has been very consistent about it ever since. FWIW, my pediatrician said a normal BF baby would wake 0-2x per night at 6 months, 0-1x per night at 9 months, and should sleep through by 12 months.

He did it off and on starting around 4 months but not consistently (like every night with a few deviations) until 8-9 months. We didn't really sleep train just did some light reinforcing and short periods of crying.

I'd need multiple options for my two- my first never did until about 15 months (walking helped so much in my opinion, formula and solid foods did nothing for his sleep). My second has never given me 9+ hours, but he gives me good 7-8 hour stretches from early on *sometimes* but it is still a world of difference from my first and a hundredfold times easier the second time around, even on the rougher nights.

No. Both of mine woke 1-3x a night at that age (which meant 2-6 wake-ups for me). Didn't change until I weaned at 1 year in spite of multiple attempts at CIO.

We went through a phase around that time where he refused bottles while I was working and just wanted to nurse all night long - it was rough! Around 10 months it got a lot better and he self-weaned just before turning one.
