Ewwwwww. He stayed at my head. Our hospital actually doesn't allow pictures or video while you're pushing. Only before or after.

We both thought my husband would be most comfortable at my head during birth, but he decided in the moment to watch DD's birth, and he said it was amazing. He watched DS's delivery, as well, but he was a little scarred by that one since he watched the doctor manually remove my placenta afterward. His exact words were, "You can't come back from that." Lol!

He was sorty of by my side, he saw her come out, and he cut the cord.
hostess / papaya / 10540 posts
Mine wanted to actually do the catching. Since I ended up having a c/s he was only allowed by my head.
GOLD / cantaloupe / 6703 posts
He'll probably stay by my head until he gets to cut the cord. He doesn't want to see "all that" and I don't want him to either.
GOLD / wonderful pea / 17697 posts
He was at the foot of the bed, bracing one of my feet and giving me a play by play of what he was seeing: "I see hair, Honeybee!" etc. Didn't think he'd want to see all that, but he was enthusiastic about it...and still wanted to have sexy time less than 2 weeks later...

@FutureMrsMcK: Haha. Seeing all the craziness didn't affect DH either. I had 3rd degree tears too!
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21628 posts
He doesn't want to see our future baby coming out. He thinks it'll make him nauseous. I want him to watch though.
grapefruit / 4819 posts
I was adamant he would be by my head; I was also adamant I would never use a mirror to help push. Wrong on both accounts. DH held one leg whilst I pushed and we both watched our little girl come into the world. We loved it - he wasn't grossed out and I wasn't freaked out by what he would have seen.
pomegranate / 3438 posts
He didn't want to see anything but he ended up holding one of my legs and saw everything. He is still a little scarred from seeing the Dr. use the forceps....

@chopsuey119: Ha, yeah, he saw me get an episiotomy, 2nd degree tear and a massive hemorrhage...and he blamed the episiotomy for why we couldn't have sex right away. Silly man.
bananas / 9357 posts
He says he doesn't want to see. If he wants to watch, that's fine by me. I kind of want him to see and was a little surprised he didn't want to.
papaya / 10560 posts
I thought he'd be up at my head but he was down there! Watched me get an episiotomy and vacuum him out! I had no idea they had to vacuum him out until he told me!
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
head, head, head! he was visibly uncomfortable during my cvs, i can't imagine him being ok with seeing that kind of stuff during labor.
squash / 13764 posts
Head for sure!!! I told him he's not going south of the equator. He seems to think he'll want to watch the baby crowning...I personally think he'll be too freaked out by it, but we'll see.
GOLD / papaya / 10166 posts
Um... side. But he's 6'8" so he got an aerial shot of the whole thing. Even got it on video!
coconut / 8475 posts
Head. I want him at my head and he wants to be at my head.
He went with me to my membrane sweeping appointment and he has been acting very odd ever since....he doesn't want to cut the cord either haha
His thing is : he doesn't want to see anything that will "turn him off" from the whole experience which should be a beautiful experience
coconut / 8475 posts
Oh and my friends husband saw her poop and apparently he won't let her live it down....he thinks it's the most hilarious thing on earth. Poor girl
GOLD / squash / 13464 posts
I expect he'll hold a foot so he'll be by my side but have a view of things. I have no issue with him seeing as much as he feels comfortable seeing.
@BabyBoecksMom: my hubs is 6'6" so he'll probably have a similar experience. But no video!!

He wants to be by the head and im fine with that! Most of our friends have been talking to him about how they thought that too and changer their minds in the moment though so we'll see how it goes when it's actually time.

I thought he'd stay up by my head, but he was enlisted to hold a leg and saw it all. I thought he'd be squeamish but he was a total champ, and I think he's glad it happened that way.
GOLD / wonderful grape / 20289 posts
He was at my feet. I wanted a play by play..... but I didn't want to have to see for myself by mirror. He loved seeing her come out!
coconut / 8305 posts
Feet, he was actually behind us going down the hall so he really saw everything! We had initially planned on him catching baby though so no biggie! I'm glad he's involved and not freaked with the whole childbirth thing.
@TurtleDoves: That's mean and really sucks for her! What a way to say thanks for having his kid! lol
coconut / 8475 posts
@runsyellowlites: I knoooow. I would have been like "I'll shit when and where I want to buddy!" but their relationship is sooooo open and she barely cares that he thinks its funny so...to each their own I guess!
bananas / 9973 posts
I definitely want DH to be at my side and/or head! I don't want him to remember me "like that", especially if the poop thing happens...
GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts
We both want him at my head at all times. Our hospital also has the same policy as some PPs, in that no pictures are allowed during actual delivery.
GOLD / pomelo / 5737 posts
He was at my head but saw everything. He managed to describe HOW I tore. Haha
ETA He held a leg, so no picture taking...but I told him that ahead of time anyway! I don't need to see that!
pomegranate / 3716 posts
I want him near my head for sure!!
But apparently the hospital where I plan to deliver always has the husbands holding one of the legs, so it's inevitable that he'll get a front row seat...
persimmon / 1453 posts
I don't know where he'll be supporting me at this point. It's likely we'll be in the tub for delivery, and I'm really liking the idea of catching my own baby. So he could be behind me for the action. We'll see!

Neither of us thought he would be able to handle it, but he was at the foot when LO was born! He did stay beside me throughout though.
pomegranate / 3204 posts
DH did not want to be at my feet, he was at my head. I really wished he wouldve got pics though.. of everything!
cantaloupe / 6630 posts
Head I hope!!!! But he's a physio and can handle blood and stuff, so maybe he'll change his mind.
grapefruit / 4582 posts
he was up at my head. my doula was holding my leg and i needed to look him in the eye. now in hindsight we both wish he was watching. oh well, next time
cantaloupe / 6751 posts
He was in the middle... he was by my head but moved "down" to see the action (but wasn't brave enough to be down by my feet, ha!).
coconut / 8498 posts
DH was holding a leg and watched the whole thing. I think the whole process surprised him, but it didn't gross him out.
clementine / 773 posts
He was holding one of my legs and got a good look at everything that happened down there. He told me when he could see the head.
