We have been using Foogo Thermo straw bottle for awhile and noticed the straw gets a little black/moldy. Looking to get a new straw bottle for DD when she starts Kindergarten. Which one do you use?

Aw really? I love those and never have an issue! I like that they're minimal parts, you can see everything (so no hiding mold) and can reach and clean everything.

@dolphin: I was about to recommend the Fogo thermos. We haven't had any mold issues (despite a few years of heavy use).

@snowjewelz: @Bluebonnet: I know I was so bummed! I even ordered replacement straws. It looks a little black when I look inside the straw. Just very little but I have a hard time cleaning it even with a straw brush.

We use super basic sport water bottles that we get for free at the local 4th of July parade every year passed out by the local high school football team. They hold up great, I don't stress if they get lost, minimal parts, super easy to clean.

We've been using the contigo autospout. The whole straw mechanism can be removed to clean it. They are pretty great and super sturdy.

We've been using the Camelbak Eddy Kids bottles for a year and a half. I just bought replacements for all the bite valves, because my one year old thought it was funny to stick her finger inside and broke the seals. I appreciate that you can replace that part since it is the only part that has broken on any of our 8 bottles.
We use them for water only and clean with the straw brush every time. I'm personally not okay with putting anything but water in a straw cup because I imagine it's not possible to scrub every crevice.

@Mrs. Cereal: we use this one too and have had no problems. We have had it for a year and no mold.
We also recently got a Bubba Flo. The top is a little difficult to use but it's been great for camp.

Contigo just revamped their Gizmo bottle for kids. DS loves it - he sleeps with it at night

We started with the Camelbak Eddy Kids and love them. For summer camp, I "upgraded" DD1 (6 years) to the adult-sized contigo spout bottle also mentioned on this thread, just so she wouldn't have to refill as often. But I think that size would be overkill for K, and be unnecessarily heavy.

DD and I both LOVE our Liberty bottles. They come in multiple sizes, awesome designs and the non-insulated ones are made in the USA (they have an insulated version too, but I’m not sure where it’s manufactured...but made here was a big plus for me so I have the originals). You can buy an extra pack of straws for the sport tops, though we haven’t needed to switch ours yet, or use without a straw. I’m a big fan of both the bottles and the company itself.

@Iced Tea: We also use the Camelbak Eddy kids - I love that I can take it fully apart, wash by hand and put in the dishwasher, and can order replacement parts on amazon (like when my kid decided chewing on the mouthpieces was a fun habit).
They also come in super cute designs - mermaids, llamas, xmas elves, unicorns, etc. We have 5 or 6 now and it's easy to rotate thru the week with a clean one every day.

Our Kinder teacher had a very specific request. Sport top and sweat proof. We use polar water bottles now as they fit that bill. Our 3.5 year old even uses them. Love ‘em.

We love the thermos funtainers cause it keeps their water cold. And we have had them over 2 years with no mold issues at all. We have 8 and only put water in them, cleaned in the dishwasher. We had used the camelbak eddies for a long time but found mold in the lids, under the piece on the lid that the mouth piece flips down on. Camelbak send replacement lids but I gave up on them because there is no way to clean that piece, you can remove it but it doesn't stay put very well it you try to reattach it.

We have the pbk one that matches the lunch boxes and backpack and I have been pleasantly surprised. It is insulated, easy to clean and held up all year.

We use a Contigo, but I'm not sure which model. We have had good luck with it not leaking.

This one from Contigo:

There is no place for mold to grow because you can reach every part of it to clean it. And it doesn't leak.

@dolphin: we like camelbak the best but also have some contigo bottles. Contigo is great but the straw comes loose after a while. The camelbak is the best in my opinion but we use the contigo when they are younger since you just push a button to release the spout

Thermos Funtainer with spout instead of straw. It can't mold--we've been using it the last year and it's our favorite one (I feel like we buy them all).

@Anagram: Does it leak at all? I find it odd that you can only buy that kind of Thermos cup at target? My daughter wants another Thermos one and that might be a good way to go (without the straw).

@NorthStar: we've never had a leak. I read that one review that said they've had the button pushed and all thebwater comes out, but we've used it daily for an entire school year and that has never happened to us. Maybe they got a faulty one--I just went to buy a new one for DD2, and I did pick up one that didn't close properly on top, so I just returned it for one that wasn't broken.

We use the same one as @anagram (the funtainer with spout instead of straw) and have had no issues. My daughter has a cup holder on the side of her backpack, so having the button pushed and all the water drain out isn't likely to happen.
