What kind of water shoes does your LO wear at the splash pad or beach? Last year we had Native knock offs which worked well. Wondering if there are better options? I'd like to skip anything that gets super stinky!

DD has a brand just from BRU I think they were 8.99?! They never smell, I rinse them and hang them to dry and also wash iin dish washer every other week!

We usually just go barefoot, but I got some cheap ones at Old Navy for when we need them. They are croc-style so I can wash them whenever I need to. I can't find them on the website so post a link!

I get a pair of water shoes from Academy every year for like $5.

@tlcbaby: the splash pads here aren't always super clean and there are parts of the ground that don't get wet and get really hot, so I like her to have something on her feet. Croc style is what I was thinking but don't want to pay $30 for something she won't wear a lot.
@FaithFertility: we had a pair from stride rite last summer that got so so stinky. It was gross!

@Foodnerd81: It's worth checking--even if they are off the website, maybe they are on clearance? I got them for under $10!

My boys wear natives all summer. We are always going to splash pads, swimming pools, etc.

We wear the old navy knock-off Natives, and they work great. She loves them, they don't smell, and they are 1/3 of the cost of the Natives.

DD wears Natives as her regular shoes and water shoes.
I did buy a Speedo pair from Target for school.
She had ON jelly mary-janes but refused to wear them; I think maryjane style shoes hurt her chubby feet.

We've been really happy with the knockoff Natives from Old Navy as well.

Doh- I couldn't find the ON ones on the site because I was looking at sandals and jellies, not "flats". And I just placed a big order for the free shipping and they are out of stock in my local stores. Glad to hear they are good though!

I got these SKRs for LO. They were super cheap (on clearance) so they may not be available anymore. I like that they're washable.

@Adira: Crocs aren't allowed at our day care. Even on water day.
We have the same ones as @lawbee11. I think they were $15.

@Smurfette: Oh, interesting! Our daycare hasn't said anything, so I assume crocs are allowed, haha.

@Smurfette: @Adira: Ditto for our center--Crocs are not allowed at all, not even for water park. We have these SKR water shoes for LO (she loves them!):

We have gotten these for the past two summers- they are a little more expensive ($27) but DD gets a lot of use out of them since she can use them as water shoes or instead of sneakers if it's too hot for socks.

@lawbee11: @Smurfette: @pwnstar: those would be perfect! Where do you find skr cheap? They run true to size?
She's not in daycare so no limits on crocs, but I don't think they are as cute on girls. I like that she could put those sandals on herself (as opposed to the traditional Natives that look like a sneaker).

@Foodnerd81: I always wait and buy from their clearance section. She wears the same size in ON and other shoes.

@Foodnerd81: Sign up for their emails. They sometimes have deals like 3 pairs for $50 shipped (which is how I got the sandals). I've also found good deals on Amazon.
pear / 1718 posts
@Foodnerd81: I do the same things as @Smurfette: and @lawbee11: . . . I try to buy ahead during their sales, and also look for deals on Amazon. Every once in a while I will pay full price for shoes, but 90% of the time, everything is on sale.

@pwnstar: is that these: See Kai Run Makena Adjustable Sandal (Toddler), Pink, 8 M US Toddler https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0113OT2WI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_ltVFxbRNN34RX
Can you just rinse them if, say, they get wet and in the sand box or whatever? Her size is under $20 on Amazon.

We have keens and crocs. Got the crocs at Once Upon a Child for $8
pear / 1718 posts
@Foodnerd81: Yep! And yes, they can get wet. My LO wears them at the water park and in/out of swimming pools.
wonderful cherry / 21504 posts
@pwnstar: @lawbee11: reviews say they run small which is perfect, since she's not quite an 8 yet anyway. They look more comfy than the others I was looking at. Thanks!
pear / 1718 posts
@Foodnerd81: That's a great deal! I hope you (both) like them as much as we do! And yes, the toddler sizes for SKR are slightly smaller than the same size in the big kid sizes.

This year, DS is wearing the phibian sneaker sandal by Stride Rite. They seem like the same material as a croc, but they look like gym shoes. He has crocs too, but they are big on him and fall off when he runs.
