We got watermelon from our CSA and they have seeds. So I'm painstakingly removing them for LO. What a PITA!

Buy the baby ones, I think they advertise them as seedless watermelons.

Sorry, but GMOs are bad. Watermelons need seeds, just like we do, to reproduce!

@Mrs.Someone: I always thought that seedless watermelons have been around for decades? Some more recent varieties might be GMOs, but the old school ones are just bred to be sterile...
I'm not an expert though, so could be wrong!!

@mrbee: They have, but they aren't natural. Looks like I was wrong about them being GMO, but they are a "hybrid" which messes with nature: http://www.whataboutwatermelon.com/index.php/2010/09/the-truth-about-seedless-watermelon/

@Mrs.Someone: I'm a hybrid too haha!
Lots of plants were cross bred over the years... I'll take crossbreeding over GMOs any time though!

I prefer the ones with seeds because I think they taste better.

@locavore_mama: I hear ya!!! I may or may not have had a hissy fit about a seeded watermelon when I was 9 months preggo. Totally acceptable, right?

@stine_ciro: My husband's aunt swears by that, but I went for both this season (multiple times from multiple farms) and the seedless were so much sweeter and not mealy. Might depend on the area.

We also got watermelons with seeds this week from our CSA. I do have to say though... they taste *way* better than regular seedless watermelons from the grocery store. I've just been giving DD whole wedges of watermelon, and she's been eating them, seeds and all. Is that bad for her?

@skibobrown: does she know to spit them back out? The seeds don't digest.

No, she just eats them. I think it's fine that the seeds don't digest. They just pass through the digestive tract and come out the other side, right?
