How long did it take to train your body to only produce BM in the evening/ MOTN? LO enters daycare end of next month and I will send formula bottles. At home I don't mind bresstfeeding, but I don't want to pump during the day at work. Is there something I should do now? I also want to avoid pianful engorgement and leaking at work if possible.

It was definitely gradual for me... I quit pumping at a year and by then was only pumping once a day. I think I gave myself at least a week each time I dropped a session, so if you're breastfeeding 3x a day now, drop to 2x, then once, then hopefully by the time you go back to work you will have regulated to that.
My first week w/o pumping at all I was definitely full and did hand express a little just to ease some pressure. -
For reducing production, I've heard mint, sage, cabbage leaves on the breasts, and sudafed all work.

I was prone to clogged ducts so I reduced slowly over 2 weeks - was pumping 9, 12 and 3 then went to 9 and 12 for 1 week then just 12 for 1 week

Planing having a hand pump for when you feel uncomfortable. I barely produced half of what DS needed but I still pumped once a day at work until he was day weaned completely.
ETA: I WOH 1 day a week so I was with DS all day 6 days a week. Your experience may be different if you WOH full time.

I would suggest just pumping small amounts at work for comfort. I personally wouldn't cut down nursing sessions until I was actually back at work. Give him all those antibodies before day care!
Eta making sure this sounds how I intend, I totally support your decision! I think that it's awesome to make the choice to nurse part time rather than just stopping.

@MoonMoon: cool list, I had only heard about cabbage leaves only for discomfort.
@macintosh: which hand pump did you use? I tried out the Ameda and didn't have enough strength to even get through a full session.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I didn't love my hand pump. I can't recall the name but I actually got it free from the hospital as part of the kit that came with the Medela hospital pump I used. I didn't have much milk, but I was often uncomfortable. I would pump a little to get things flowing and then do compressions to hand express 1-2 oz.
