It was easy. Had our wills drawn up online. And went to see our CPA to have them notarized.
Have you done yours?

NOpe, but will as soon as the baby is born. I want to have a plan in place in case something would happen to both of us!

@Andrea: woohoo! I feel so much better now that we have it done.

This reminds me to do mine. I did my guardianship papers today, I just need to have them signed and witnessed. I'm more concerned about the guardianship papers than my will, but I should do that too.
Do you girls think I should give a copy to my friend who is looking after my LO during my C-section, as a back up, just in case? Also, I will be giving a copy to my parents as well.

We are still discussing who will be in charge of LO if we both pass but once that is determined we'll get it all done before the munchkin comes.

I'm jealous! I'd like to make it a priority, but unfortanetly we have sooooo much going on right now. Maybe I'll finally just set a deadline and tell DH that we have to have it done by then.... like LO's first birthday.

@MamaMoose: I strongly suggest you actually follow through with that. I kept saying I wanted it done before LO came, but of course that didn't happen and now there's no time and no money.

@artbee: yeah a lot of people don't follow through! I actually work in personal banking so we work with estate planning attorneys all the time so I won't forget : )

@belleoftheballe: guardianship is sooo hard!!
@chopsuey119: Go you! Where did you get yours? We need to do this and get a life insurance policy in place. Sigh.

@regberadaisy: for life insurance call the company where you do your homeowner's. You'll get a better rate by going to a company where you are already a customer. As long as you don't have any difficult health issues it should be a super easy process.

@regberadaisy: Especially when you have a complicated family.
This is what I have done: In the event that something happens to both of us, or my husband isn't able to care for my children, guardianship, and sole physical/legal custody passes directly to my parents with weekly visitation rights for my MIL and her husband. If something should happen to my parents, the guardianship then goes to my middle brother who is the most stable out of my three brothers, same visitation with my MIL as before. I have also put in a clause that my GMIL is not allowed to look after my children unsupervised in any way possible from now on. Yeah, that's going to go down really well. But it is desperately needed as she basically took away my DH as a baby from her daughter, my MIL and wouldn't give him back, even after a lengthy court battle. It was ugly. She really is pure evil.

This just reminded me to email my husband and tell him we need to do this! As the lawyer in our family, this one is definitely his job!
