Today while I was cleaning the house I looked out the window and saw a Bernese mountain dog hanging out in our backyard. She is beautiful, but was filthy, starving and smelled like a skunk. She has since been groomed at our vet and is looking great. She's such a sweet girl and my heart breaks for the family who lost her. I hope we can find them.

@Synchronicity: aw, thanks! We are crazy dog lovers and are just amazed - and pleased - that she gets along so well with our dog. If we are unable to find her owners, we would happily let her stay.

Wow! My little dog ran away during the holidays a couple years ago...she was gone for a full month! Hoping the owners can be found.

I hope she's chipped and finds her people. As a Berner mama, my heart breaks that she's not home for Christmas. Give her some love from our family and may the spirit of my departed Berners help her find her way!

@Mrs. Jacks: we took her to our vet and sadly she isn't chipped. We do have a vet's number from her rabies vaccination tag, but no other info. The vet was closed yesterday, so we are hoping to get answers tomorrow.

Hopefully the vet will have her info tomorrow (thank goodness for a current rabies tag!) and meanwhile she gets a merry Christmas with you. I'm wistful. Such a joy to see her!

@Synchronicity: yes! We finally got in touch with her owner last Friday. Apparently the lady's son had been dog-sitting and the dog ran away. She had been gone nearly 2 weeks by the time we found her! It was a very happy reunion, but a little sad since we fell in love with her.
