Its good that she has lots of wet diapers and is pooping!
On the other hand only eating 4x a day at 11 weeks is low - That averages out to eating every 6 hours - I would aim for at least 6 times a day

My DD took a while to really start gaining and I think she actually may have lost a few oz between 1 and 2 months. She was born at 9lbs3oz and last almost a lb but gained it back by 2wks.then at her 2 month appointment she was only 10lbs1oz, not even 2lbs over her birth weight! The dr had us bring her in 2wks later to make sure she was gaining and she had gained 9oz so he wasn't worried. Then at her 4 month appointment she was 13lbs8oz and just exploded in gain from there! (she's almost 6 months now and definitely over 16lbs)

Babies don't always gain evenly, I would ask the pediatrician. I worried about my supply and when she was seemingly losing oz I noticed she would not eat often and didn't have as many wet diapers, and then she started seeming hungry almost all the time and her diaper count went up when she stayed gaining. I pumped and nursed often to try and up my supply which really did help.

Xander's always been a bad weight-gainer! He went from the 70th percentile down to the 15th and never gained the "expected" amount. But my pediatrician was never worried.

If your LO is having enough wet diapers and seems alert and meeting other milestones, I don't think you need to be concerned. Babies will let you know if they are hungry! Although only eating 4x/day does seem like not very much - could you try just feeding her more often? I was feeding Xander every 3 hours at that age (sometimes waking him from a nap to feed him).

@illumina: We followed EASY and every 3 hours sounds totally normal. I would've thought you'd have one more feed in there though (like if you LO wakes at 7:00 for the day, you'd feed 7:00, 10:00, 1:00, 4:00, and 7:00)? That seems totally reasonable to me.

And Xander didn't really show signs of hunger either. I just fed him when I thought it was time to feed him! Or if he was fussy and I couldn't figure out the reason, then I'd try to feed him and if he was hungry, he'd eat! I suspect you're doing everything just fine!

@oliviaoblivia: That's because your DD is a little piggy. Xander's 9 months and only nurses 4 times a day! Although at 11 weeks, he was nursing 6 times a day! So I agree that 4 doesn't seem like enough!

@illumina: Though all babies and boobs are different! It's possible that your baby has a bigger stomach and so can eat more at each feed, which will allow her to go longer between feeds. And if your boobs can hold more at a time, then that could just be what works for you two!

I agree with PP that the diapers sound good, but eating 4 times a day seems low. M is 4 months and eats at least twice that. I think most EBF babies eat 25-30oz/ day, so she would have to be eating around 7 oz per feed, which is a lot! I would talk to her pediatrician just to be sure.

Here’s a general guide to the growth of breastfed babies during the first year:
•Weight gain of 4-7 ounces (112-200 grams) a week during the first month
•An average of 1-2 pounds (1/2 to 1 kilogram) per month for the first six months
•An average of one pound (1/2 kilogram) per month from six months to one year
•Babies usually grow in length by about an inch a month (2.5c.m.) during the first six months, and around one-half inch a month from six months to one year

My pediatrician said for a baby of my LO's size ( 6 lbs, 10 oz at birth and breast milk only), she wanted to see her double her birth weight by 4 months as a low-end marker. She told me this when we were having some feeding issues. We DID manage to double her weight just by 4 months after starting the MSPI diet. The doubling-weight rule does not apply to larger babies.

Personally, I wouldn't use sleep as an indication of health. Many babies eat a ton and do not sleep well and conversely, one of my close friends had a baby that did not gain AT ALL in the first month (she was EBF but had low supply and didn't know it until his 1 month appointment) and her infant was sleeping 10 plus hours straight through as soon as 2 weeks old and not showing hunger signs. But he wasn't getting enough.

My own LO doesn't show hunger signs (again, she has feeding issues which aren't really common), but I can't go by when she seems hungry or she would never eat. Not showing hunger signs is common for reflux babies as well as some babies with allergies.

Is she following her curve, approximately? My daughter weighed exactly that at birth, and still 9 pounds at 11 weeks. Hell, I think she weighed 9 pounds at 4 months. I'm a small person, and she's similar. Are you and her father big, or small?

That doubling rule never applied to my daughter - she barely hit 12 pounds by 8 months! And she certainly did not triple it by a year.

@illumina: Xander dropped in the weight curves too. He was around 70th, then 55th, then 33rd, then 17th. Since around 4-6 months, he's stayed steady around the 15th percentile for weight. My pediatrician hasn't been concerned! Also, our pediatrician told us that it's normal for babies to drop on the weight curve when they start STTN, because they just aren't eating as much!

We are in the same boat as you. D was born at 8 lbs 13 oz and at 8 weeks he was at 10 lbs 1 oz. We have to go back at 3 months for a weight check because the pedi is concerned. I'm trying not to worry by reminding myself that he is growing in length, meeting development milestones, and has plenty of wet diapers. It is so hard not to worry when breastfeeding. I don't have any advice for you but just wanted to say I know how you feel. I am considering supplementing with formula if his weight gain doesn't improve.
