Does anyone use a weighted blanket for their LO?
How old is your LO and what weight is the blanket? When did you start using it?

Bumping for you! We do not but my friend uses one for her son. He is 5 and they started using it last year. It does help calm him.

@sorrycharlie: I have looked into this a little because I think it might help my DD. We seem to be dealing with some sort of restless leg issue...we're trying to find a new doctor first

We used them extensively when I did speech therapy with kids with autism and other behavior/developmental issues. We started with a 5lb blanket and moved up from there if needed. You can also get weighted 'lap buddies' - like a stuffed animal/pillow pet that is heavy and sits across the child's lap. Compression/weighted vests were another popular option.

I haven't used one but I read this really interesting article about weighted blankets for special needs kids and the author made it sound like it was really a wonderful solution for them:

@sorrycharlie: like Mrs. Oatmeal, I use them with some of my speech kids. They're great for kids that have some higher sensory needs & need some feedback/regulation. The occupational therapist I work with suggests with young kids, you should use 10% of their body weight---so for a 30lb kid, should be a 3 lb blanket.
