Welcome (back)! Check out the charters of the hive thread if you have any questions, or want to compare charts. Good luck, and I agree - you can't ever really be 100% prepared for something so big.

Do you want to start charting right away? I did, so it would help me figure out when to expect my period and so it would assure me that I was ovulating after stopping BCP, but before we actually started TTC. I found it really helpful, but some people find it more stressful, so keep that in mind.
I thought Taking Charge of Your Fertility was really, really helpful, but some people just do the charting tutorials on Fertility Friend, so maybe start with those. The FF app is pretty self explanatory too, so that would be helpful just starting out.

@.twist.: For me, I'd rather have too much info than not enough, so I find it less stressful than not knowing where I am and when to expect AF. You'll want to get a basal body temperature thermometer then-- you can pick one up at Target or a drugstore, or I like the Nexcare one that i got on Amazon. Then just start taking your temp as soon as you wake up, at the same time every day (so, set an alarm for the earliest you ever wake up, but you can just go back to sleep after taking it on the weekends). It's helpful for avoiding, too, if that is what you decide to do. We used it to avoid for 4 months, now we are using it to TTC.

Welcome and good luck! Others have already said it, but definitely Taking Charge of your Fertility (book) is an excellent resource and so is Fertility Friend (website). The website has a ton of FAQs you can look through and talks all about how to chart, so it's a great free resource. And don't worry! Even if you're one of the lucky few to get pregnant your first cycle trying, you'll still have 9 months to figure things out!
