My brother and I were latch key kids from 2nd? 3rd grade on. My mom tried to come home early from their business, but we would be at home for at least a few hours between school ending and my mom coming home most days.
We lived in a townhome complex with a lot of our friends who were also latch key kids.
My how times have changed.

My brother and I were not latch key kids. My mom only worked during school hours.
My DH and his two brothers, they were all latch key kids because their parents both worked full time.

Probably from the time I was 5 until I graduated!
I had 2 older sisters with me (3 and 6 years older).
We used to get ready on our own in the AM, get dressed, make breakfast and walk to school!

Yes, we were latch key kids from 2nd or 3rd grade. Walked to school by ourselves too, about half a mile. This was NYC too! Times really have changed.

Yep, from 2nd grade on. I had some 'babysitters' along the way though, so I wasn't completely alone, but there was a period when it was just me in the 2nd grade and remember where the super-secret spare key hiding spot was just in case I lost the one around my neck!

I was my whole life. In K through 4th grade my brother (2 years younger) and I would attend the after school program until around 5 or 6pm when my mom left work. Starting when I was in 5th grade I was allowed to go home and be home alone. I was a good kid and never got into any more trouble than eating two snacks or watching Maury lol
