I'm thinking I'll be ready to wean R soon (almost 1) and never thought I'd be sad about it, but I am starting to get nostalgic. Nursing at 1 is so easy, just a few times a day...I never loved nurseing, but now I kind of do.
Were you sad during or after weaning?

I was surprised at how sad I was as breastfeeding wasn't a magical experience for me. I weaned early and not really on purpose. I felt guilty and so sad. Cried my eyes out. I did it for 6 months and I hope to do it for longer with number 2.

No and I thought I would be. I weaned at 13 weeks pregnant and was mostly dried up. I was tired and it hurt and even though i didn't want it to be over, at the same time
I knew it would be best. I'll have another nursing soon enough! Dd has been pretty unphased by it, she still asks but I just offer a cup and snuggles and she's fine. I had been saying no a lot lately though anyways, so just needed the final push to quit the morning session. She strongly demanded it this morning (it's only been a week!) so Iet her try and she was over it in 5 seconds. We had a good 21 months under our belt!

@catomd00: that's a long run! R is too young to really ask for it and lately really hasn't signaled he wants it, except before naps or bed.

I had a lot of mixed emotions. Sad that I'd never BF again, happy that I'd have my body back, proud that I made it that far, worried I was making a mistake by stopping, etc.

I was ready to wean. I finished bf'ing on her first birthday as I went back to work the next day. With my schedule it wasn't possible to keep feeding her so I figured it was a good time to stop. I was 12 weeks pregnant as well, and my Dr told me once I weaned, I'd probably get some energy back. So, I was ready, but still kinda sad to lose that bond as well I guess.
I'm starting to wean my second now and I feel the same way about it. Sad to lose that bond ( and convenience! ) but once I go back to work in January, I wont be able to feed, so it just needs to be done.

I don't think my kids are really weaning, but they have started to cut back on their nursing sessions and I am soooo sad knowing that they don't need me as much. It's sort of nice in a way, especially when they let DH take over more of the bedtime stuff, but it makes me emotional to imagine being done forever. They are going to be our only babies, so like @sorrycharlie: mentioned, when they are done, I'm done BFing forever. But at the same time, they are 19 months now and it's been a longggg 19 months. It'll be nice to wear real bras again and (hopefully) sleep through the night when they do wean. I just hope it's not too soon. I'm not quite ready!

Overall I was and am really happy how it ended- gradual, and she self weaned. I knew t was coming for weeks smand was able to really savor the last few times. So that helped a ton. And I knew we would have another baby in the not too distant future (what I didn't know was that I was one week pregnant when she stopped!). I hope Nursing this baby goes as well but I'm sure it will be harder for me when she weans since this is our last.

it hit me a couple of weeks later that it was really over. we nursed for a long time (over 2 years) and had gotten down to just bedtime, which i was only doing half the week (DH doing the other half). and at that point, i found the nursing to make bedtime take longer and more difficult, so i was ready to stop. but still got a little nostalgic about it.

@jlm22: Similar experience here. I actually just posted a thread about feeling sad a couple days ago! My daughter is basically weaned at a little over 5 months (for multiple reasons I've shared elsewhere on here). It's not how I wanted or expected our nursing relationship to go. My supply tanked much sooner than I had hoped so it's been a pretty weepy couple weeks around here. In the beginning I didn't think we would even make it 8 weeks so even though I am really sad at the moment, the fact we got to 5 months is something I want to be proud of.

My son is just shy of 13 months, and we are down to one nursing session a day. I was texting with a friend when I started the weaning process and told her, "I've been nursing and pumping for so long, I almost don't how how to stop." For me, it became a huge part of my life over the last year, and letting go of it brought on a huge range of emotions for me! I am definitely glad to be done pumping, and I know once we have our last nursing session I'll likely be sad. However, I know I want another baby, so I guess knowing that's in my future will help me reconcile that it likely isn't my last time! Best wishes as you navigate the end of your nursing relationship. It isn't easy!

Hell to the no, I was so over it. I only miss the snuggles, he's to busy for more than a 30 seconds snuggle and run.

@ChiCalGoBee: that's part of it. R was a nursaholic and I've spent so much time in the last year pumping and nursing. What will life without it be like!?

I definitely was. She self-weaved at 14 months and I wasn't ready! (I got pregnant so I think the taste changed). I let myself be sad, though, and after about a week I felt more okay about it. I still get sad, though, when she gets hurt or scared and I can't nurse her to make it better!

I was sentimental, but not necessarily sad. I wasn't even sure I could breastfeed for as long as I do so I was proud of myself. But I was ready for DS to STTN and have boobs that fit into my old shirts. Although I did enjoy the bigger boobs for awhile since I barely had any pre-pregnancy!

Sooo sad. Pregnancy has made my supply tank, and it's hard. She's asking for it, looking down my shirt, making pitiful sounds when nursing. It's killing me! The fact that her one year birthday is this week and she's looking so big adds to the heartache of it all.
I'm also stressed bc she's not liking cow's milk and we're quickly burning through my freezer stash. I really thought I'd nurse until one of us was over it. But it's been such a nice thing to share with her.

I was sad in a bittersweet kind of a way. He's going to be our only so I knew that this was it.
I was also taken by surprise by the hormonal crash I experienced after weaning, I just never expected it! Once I realized what was going on, I could handle it better but for a few days I was a crying emotional mess.

I'm cutting back on my pumping now, and will start offering her a bottle or cup for one session this weekend. I'm definitely sad, but mostly because I feel bad because she loves the boob so much. She takes a bottle fine, but she definitely prefers the boob, and I'll miss that snuggle time.

My LO is 7.5 months, and still nursing all the time, but when I think about weaning whether I initiate or she does I'm totally going to be emotional!!! Nursing has been so easy for us, I've enjoyed it the entire time!

I pump weaned at 9-ish months and stopped nursing directly at 6-ish months and didn't really feel anything either way. I stopped directly nursing because he was biting HARD and pumping was just so time consuming. I'm hoping BFing works out better for DS2, but yeah I'm not that sentimental about it.

No, not really. With DD, I got pregnant and my supply tanked. I kept it up as long as I could but she was also fine with WCM so the weaning process wasn't particularly difficult.
With DS, I went off his cues and he seemed to have lost interest so I stopped offering as much. It was a pretty gradual process for both.

I was so so so happy. But LO was 21 months old, and I was 4 months pregnant, so we had nursed for a LONG time and I knew I was only going to have my boobs back for a few months.

Beforehand, I felt totally ready and wasn't really sad about it because he was never a big comfort nurser. But afterward the hormone crash hit me pretty hard and I was a bit of a mess for a week or two.

With my first, I was so ready to be done nursing and pumping. I'm coming close to 8 months nursing my second kiddo which is next week sometime. I'm ready to drop the pumping sessions. I'm so tired of planning my work day around pumping. It makes me feel so unproductive and unfocused. I'm a little torn about the nursing sessions ending. I would love for him to not have any night wakeups, but he's a cute nurseaholic. What's worse is that I forgot how we weaned E. I seriously forgot how we did it.

When I weaned my daughter at just past 2 I was sad knowing she is probably my last. I also felt it physically, hormonal it was similar to the 1st few week's post partum.
